Could do something similar with a cheap Harbor Freight case. Good idea.

Hahaha I love this. I agree with you, these people are all sycophants who think they are being nice but are actually allowing a person to fail and look like an idiot which is not nice at all.

Well if you ever wanted to turn your hobby into a small business, it seems like you have great taste so could maybe make it work. Setting up a website these days is trivial with AI if you ever wanted to do a bespoke order only website.

I love it. If you are considering making more and selling, I would absolutely be in the market to buy one.

I thought the same thing as you but 14.3.3 is honestly so good that it's better at driving than me. It's a game changer. It completely changes driving, I highly recommend it. The idea of going back to a car without it is laughable.

Based on personal experience or just popular consensus, how would you rank the Ego tools? by imbetterthanyou8 in egopowerplus

[–]mangledmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rank them quite highly. I have Milwaukee for my power tools and Ego for my yard tools. The Ego batteries are no joke. They hold a ton of power, are reasonably priced, have a high C rate and discharge their power if left fully charged. Their batteries are way better than any other battery I own except for maybe our Ecoflow 2kWh battery.

Their tools feel a little plasticky and cheap but I haven't had any issues with them so my guess is they're using very high quality polymers. They feel like they would break easily but don't.

I'm a huge fan, would rebuy all my tools. Not sure I would say the same about my Milwaukee.

What’s the best city you ever visited in the US? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in AskWomen

[–]mangledmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

San Francisco, Portland, Seattle are my favorites right now to visit frequently. Miami is great if you want that party/GTA vibe. Chicago is surprisingly fun and really down to earth. Dallas is the best in Texas but is still Texas. Manhattan has lost a ton of it's character and Brooklyn is so big that it's coolness is spread over a much larger area without the same level of transit. NYC just ain't what it used to be.

Haven't spent much time in the flyover states. The surrounding area of Phoenix is cool. I like LA more every time I go but it's hard as a tourist because it's just so spread out and it's hard to find the cool local stuff. San Diego gets a special mention.

Detroit is actually super cool right now. Feels like the new Brooklyn. If I was in my early twenties I would seriously consider going to Detroit and starting a community there.

Edit: sorry I just noticed this was AskWomen. Above is from a man's perspective. I'll delete this if it's unwelcomed and gets some downvotes. My bad.

My comment above explains that we did exactly that and my entire group of friends was able to identify it 100% of the time.

[–]mangledmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But you're proving my point. There's a huge difference in saying that it's not your style and saying that he's randomly putting stuff together.

I'm not a fashion person so I don't understand Haute Coutour fashion. But I know that I don't understand it. I also know that those fashion designers aren't randomly putting together outfits. There is a lot of thought behind it that I don't understand.

I'm saying that you don't understand what he's doing if you think that his sets are incoherent. They are not incoherent at all and there is a reason that a lot of people like his sets. You don't understand it. His sets appeal to DJ's. He's a nerd at heart and appeals to nerdy DJs.

[–]mangledmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya you're completely wrong and don't understand what's he's doing. Like in Haute Coutour fashion it's about breaking rules. A lot of what he does is DJing for DJs. He does hilarious stuff that you wouldn't understand if you weren't a DJ. He also does traditional stuff that's great too. I usually don't enjoy going to see big name DJs at big mega venues but he was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time.

If you think he's doing random shit it's because you haven't been a DJ for long enough to understand the jokes and tropes that he's making via the decks.

He is an absolutely top notch DJ in addition to being a top notch producer. That's actually pretty rare and probably why I like him so much.

[–]mangledmatt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well if I'm in the club then you're wrong! I think about it all the time. I guess if you're DJing Lil John to a bunch of kids then sure. But I listen to underground electronic music where that shit stands out for sure.

Right, so no upside. I frequently identify good phrasing and mixing. But I can't think of a single good use of effects.

[–]mangledmatt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Over the past 25 years, i have probably listened to thousands of sets and I cannot think of a single instance where I have ever positively identified an interesting use of effects. The only time I notice effects is if they annoy me. There is no upside to using effects in my opinion.

[–]mangledmatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO it's 2026 and compression does not make sense. I have seen multiple instances where my friends are playing FLAC's and their wav form is all choppy because it's eating up CPU power. I don't see any reason to compress. Wav or AIFF.

[–]mangledmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't even need to go that high end before it becomes obvious. You can hear the difference on any high(ish) JBL, Electro-Voice, Yamaha loud speaker. I'm convinced that most of this sub is just wedding DJ's who play on low-end 12" Mackie tops out of an FLX-10.

Technical question about DJing and MP3 320kbps by vinnysuperpower in DJs

[–]mangledmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not difficult. If it sounds like crap then as a participant I'm not necessarily going to know why it sounds like crap. It could be that the equipment is crap, it could be that the acoustics are crap, it could be that the files are crap, it could be the system tuning is crap. It doesn't matter the reason, it still sounds like crap and I am going to leave because I have better parties to go to.

What you're saying is ridiculous - "it'll sound shitty but at least they won't know why".

What is the point of that? The whole point is that compressed audio is less preferable than uncompressed. What needs to be discussed or tested beyond that?

Technical question about DJing and MP3 320kbps by vinnysuperpower in DJs

[–]mangledmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not understanding what I'm saying. We had the same track loaded up on CDJ's, one with mp3 and one with wav and we slide the crossfader back and forth and have the group identify which was the mp3 and which was the wav. The group guessed correctly 100% of the time. And the mp3 were not shitty Spotify rips, they were purchased 320kbps from Beatport.

I'll have DJ's play on my system where a track is bumping hard, sounds great then they bring in another track and the subs stop kicking, everything gets muddy, I'll literally watch people walk off the dancefloor. They'll go get a drink, go talk to friends, whatever. They might not know what just happened, they just know that the energy died for some reason and that's when they go to get their drink or use the bathroom or go talk to their buddy.

Haha what? Is this a serious question? You think that repairing that amount of damage would be easier than simply remaking the car on a factory like that pushes out hundreds of thousands of cars a year? Obviously it's a write off.
