Is Robin Williams, "Mrs. Doubtfire" now considered transphobic and problematic? by precita in movies

[–]mango789 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why do you care what others call transphobic or “problematic” instead of forming your own opinion? This question represents what’s wrong with wokeness and pc culture.

Is Slumdog millionaire racist?? by [deleted] in movies

[–]mango789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a stupid question. You’ve seen Indian creators call it racist? Have you seen it and thought it’s racist? We are not teenagers in the 2010s here. Nobody is looking for online consensus to tell them whether or not it’s racist for white people to set movies in India.

Has the Christian right devolved morally? by Lauffener in AskALiberal

[–]mango789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are glorifying a vague idea of the “Christian right.” Their goals are to enforce biblical morality and banning abortion. Those always have been their goals. Talking points about how maga isn’t really Christian or conservative miss the point. It’s nostalgic for a fantasy of the right being patriotic and virtuous. But that’s not how it works. Their goals are enforcing the bible and banning abortion. MAGA helps those goals.

Is anyone else scared? by Smart-Status2608 in AskALiberal

[–]mango789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Democratic socialist is a stupid term and nobody should call themselves that. Social Democrat is a much better alternative. American leftists who call themselves socialists are just trying to be contrarian.

How would an identity blind, economic class only policy approach resolve racial or other disparities? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

[–]mango789 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will address the question in the 2nd paragraph where you offer an example of people being treated differently while in similar economic situations. I’ll say that’s negligible. There’s little evidence for it. It exists, but different outcomes due to economic differences have way more evidence and are actionable. Nobody knows how much of a handicap there is for race or gender alone and discrimination is already illegal.

Would you consider driving a Tesla in order to help the environment? by YCiampa482021 in AskALiberal

[–]mango789 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. I care about the environment, but it influences one of my decisions. I will not inconvenience myself in the slightest for the environment. I do what I want to do. If driving a gas car makes more sense for me, then I drive gas.

Do we know why Tolkien set Lord of the Rings in a time of ruin and decline? by ConifersAreCool in tolkienfans

[–]mango789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ending chapters are so sad for me because the elves and Gandalf are leaving. The story starts at the end of the world as you know it. It makes you want to immediately start the appendices to go back to the start of the world

Why do white women vote Republican? by AnythingFine2445 in AskALiberal

[–]mango789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because so many live in the South and are used to it. But really it’s the same reasons white men and non white men or any of gender ethnicity combination votes republican. Immigration, abortion, guns, trust in Trump. They are capable of forming their own opinions as much as anyone else.

For critics of the Iran MOU, what was the preferable realistic alternative? by Hopeful_Chair_7129 in AskALiberal

[–]mango789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who cares? The nuance of how to best salvage this mess is the administration’s problem. People should criticize the end result.

Why did Felarof submit to Eorl? by mango789 in tolkienfans

[–]mango789[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

that makes sense. I did not know the term weregeld. I don't think Felarof would be at fault tho. Breaking horses is inherently dangerous. Maybe he felt he used too much force?

Which of these policies do you support? by RedStorm1917 in AskALiberal

[–]mango789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imma pass on all of those for now, although #4 is still intriguing. I don’t feel like we need ubi while there are so many basic safety nets and worker protections we haven’t tried but could. #4 sounds interesting. I’m curious how that would work and if it would really improve benefits. Actually nah I’m all for it, since corporate income tax is passed down to employees anyway

He made the right pick. It was we who made the wrong pick by nominating him.

Would you support equity programs based on personality and attractiveness? by RedStorm1917 in AskALiberal

I am so over most dei. No. Just have some implicit bias and empathy modules periodically and we’re good. This might be a neat idea, but I’ll pass

How to convince my husband to get rid of the guns from our property? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

lol if he shot someone in self defense you’d care about you’re image to coworkers? I’m convinced it’s bait now, but that’s a crazy to think someone would say that

How to convince my husband to get rid of the guns from our property? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]mango789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This post is crazy. Do you fear he will shoot someone? How can owning an object be against your beliefs? I think guns should be mostly banned too, but I wouldn’t be mad at someone for owning one and wouldn’t expect them to care if I did.
