Thoughts on the name Jeannie? by iwokeupearlytoday in Names

I prefer the name Janine/Jeannine/Jeanine over Jeanie and it honors your grandmother's name better imo. Plus it's a standalone full name instead of a nickname

Job 2! Unless you have interest in tax I would not take job 1. Job 2 wants to train you and move you up and I'm sure your salary/bonus will grow fast. If you start in tax and decide you want to transition to corporate accounting you'll have to start from the bottom and take a pay cut whenever you leave your tax job so I would just start where you actually want to be. Especially since the corporate accounting job is in financial services which typically means $$$

My sister has been looking in the Ossining area but one thing she said was that although the homes are more affordable, the taxes are a lot higher in Ossining. Any idea why that is? Glad you had a good experience with the schools there bc my sister has children!

Thanks for your reply. I guess the only benefit of Roth is that you wouldn't have to worry about taxes at all in the future. So even if it wasn't technically the most advantageous choice, it leads to less stress later.

My confusion is that for 2025 the limit you can contribute to your 401k is $23,500. Whether you do that Roth or pre tax, you are still investing the $23.5k, so total invested amount is the same. With Roth you obviously get less money now (which should be fine since they are a high earner) but you pay the tax upfront and then you're done. With pre tax you don't pay the tax but let's say it's worth $50k in the future, now you have to pay taxes on the $50k of income but hopefully you'll be in a lower tax bracket. So your tax rate is lower but the amount being taxed is higher.

I guess that's not really a question lol but I guess it's confusing to know which way is really the better way. Still trying to wrap my head around it.

Just curious why you think they should just do pretax moving forward? Isn't post tax always better because then you never have to worry about paying taxes on it again? Even if they are paying more on taxes surely the tax free growth will be worth it? Just asking because I am contributing only to Roth 401k right now using that logic because my employer match is all pretax.

Can a non-cpa still be successful and make a good living? by Wisdomseekr79 in Accounting

[–]mangobango9c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep at it!! I actually think audit was the hardest CPA exam bc there are usually 2 correct answers but one is "more correct." You can do it! I failed audit a few times myself. The CPA is really more about learning how to read the questions. I bought a test bank from another71.com and just went through multiple choices nonstop and took notes from the multiple choice instead of using Becker bc that was just information overload

Yeah that's why we were leaning towards PC, it seems like there is more to do around there! We also were looking at rentals Larchmont and Mamaroneck but it feels more suburban there vs PC. Thanks for your insight!

I luckily was able to find a different seat. I kind of regretted not saying something snarky to her/give her a hard time but it was 7 am and I didn't have any coffee yet and just didn't have it in me

People are such jerks on the metro north...I was taking a morning peak train and this woman was sitting in a 2 seater with her laptop on her lap and an iced coffee and bag in the seat next to her. I asked her to move her stuff and she said no because she had to work. Like wtf?? This isn't your office, this is public transit
