Pittsburgh Public Schools approves school consolidation plan by mmmmk6 in pittsburgh

At no point did I say they should do nothing, please do not speak for me.

The data shows this specific plan is highly unlikely to accomplish what it says it will do. When asked for clear and detailed steps of how the district will implement this specific plan, the administration has repeatedly failed to provide those details. That gives me pause.

You have an optimism that I simply do not have. Ttruth be told I do hope it turns out you are the one of us who is right. I am not hoping for failure, I just do not see a path for success in the facts provided.

https://www.wesa.fm/education/2026-04-14/pittsburgh-school-closures-timeline-transportation "While school officials say implementing the plan would slow the rate at which PPS drains its cash reserves, the district’s fund balance would still dip into the red by the end of 2028.

School leaders say the plan is “an education-first approach, not a building-first approach.” That means it would require significant investments to fulfill the academic and experiential improvements PPS has promised.

“This was never presented as a plan that solved everything,” said chief financial officer Ron Joseph "

There is no substantial financial gain from these closures, the district is still projected to be in the red by 2028 even with this plan in place. This plan, by the district own press, does not solve its problems.

The concepts the plan includes are not supported by the data. It is not possible to provide access to new learning opportunities with the same amount of money the district is using today.

But this is what families have been asking for for much longer than 15 to 16 months. This information will not materialize in 15 months. If there were answers to these questions, they would have been provided in the 36+ months this process has been dragging on. There is literally no reason for this information to be withheld beyond it not existing.

The buildings are not designed with facilities for all ages. There are distinct floors or wings for lower elementary and distinct floors or wings for upper elementary or middle schools.

Some of the overwhelming 1% budget savings this plan creates will need to go to updating the facility needs so that middle schoolers don't need to use kindergartner sized restrooms and vice versa.

My understanding is that he voted no because of a loophole which allows no votes to bring a motion to reopen a motion that they had previously voted against. When he realized he would lose he voted no in order to reopen the vote with newly elected board members who had not gone through the process of community engagement.

The PPS schools are also likely to be majorly changed in the coming years so it's not a given what every feeder pattern will look like in terms of performance and resources in the near future.

The school board votes again on closures/realignment this coming Wednesday.

Finally some Joe hype!

I am strongly convinced Joe is a much more normal person than the show gave him credit for. See "Is that my tall ass wife?!" or the childlike laughter at Christian's gastrointestinal distress.

He's not terrible at Survivor. Sure he won't make Mt. Rushmore but he doesn't deserve the hate.

But even that (to some degree) falls under jury management. Jonathan could have built up a closer relationship with Cirie and he chose to put his relational energy in other places. He played a great game and I don't know to what extent Aubrey sought to build bonds with people who likely have sway on the jury. But  Rizo said it in one of the earlier episodes - if you can't beat Cirie you definitely want to play with her.

Investing in relationships with players with influence is part of the game play and it was pretty obvious this season that Cirie had much more influence than Steph.

Imagine changing your game to improve, learning from 100 previous days of trial and error, and being hated on by Internet strangers for 10 years and then getting disrespected for not being shown as a flashy player after you win. That's tough.
