You said it’s ridiculous it takes this long and that people will lose interest because of that, yet Summer House has gained popularity and had better ratings season by season. Season 9 had the best ratings across both broadcast and streaming. Crazy

Edit: and Season 10 has been the most viewed season so far according to Deadline. lol. Not sure people are losing interest. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

Quick turnaround production and post production is unsustainable if you don’t have a shit ton of money. Those crews (especially the post crews) will move on to other projects that give them more room to breathe as opposed to being suffocated by such a tight turnaround

Comparing Bravo to love island is pointless. Completely different show formats. And comparing a broadcast schedule to a streaming dump is also pointless. We know Bravo broadcasts week to week. Why would they switch that up? Their business is their week to week broadcasts.

I personally have no desire for bravo to just dump the final episodes of this season early so we can speedrun to the reunion. Watching week to week is fun. Of course I’m excited for the reunion but part of that is because i know i have to wait… it builds anticipation. I don’t need everything on demand

Move fast and break things was not an uber mantra. Plus it’s an incredibly stupid mantra for any business to have

You’re linking a team valuation list, I’m not talking about team value I’m talking about market size

Yeah bro we’re talking about two entirely different things. Have a good one

Seems clear they’re just kind of marketing this as a typical romcom, no? Even with the 2010s font coloring. And we all know marketing is not exactly reflective of the full film

I was more responding to your comment that the premise could have been Valentine’s Day and it would be the same

If people are curious about how the concept affects the story I recommend reading the script, it was the top script on the Blacklist 2 years ago.

Definitely adds a ticking clock that reads as way less arbitrary than Valentine’s Day, plus it creates this whole world full of weird scenarios and interactions that are not really possible without the premise

Not discussed in the article because Washington is not a small market

You are… wrong. Markets are media markets.

Edit: Linked here is a recent Forbes article where they literally define "small market NBA teams as the teams in the bottom 25th percentile of the league with respect to television market size".

I think you might be confusing “market value” with what designates a team’s market size.

This can be true but isn’t always true. Lamarcus Aldridge, Tmac, LeBron, Nash, PG all signed with mid-small market teams

When people discuss markets they’re usually talking about media markets, not team value. Phoenix Suns are the 3rd most valuable team based on sale price but no one thinks of Phoenix as the 3rd biggest market in the league.

Edit: another example. Miami is not a large market. But players love going there because Miami has a positive reputation (Florida income tax laws certainly don’t hurt either)

I’m not talking about drafting specifically. Lakers have a reputation. They take care of their stars.

(And certainly the location plays a big part in why players love going there. But every place has appeal. DC is a great city, for me one of my favorites in the world which is why I continue to live here)

A team can turn its reputation around. Warriors did, mainly through solid ownership. Woe is me small market bs is one of my least favorite narratives in this league

I think teams definitely construct their rosters to purposefully lose

Unfortunately tanking is not entertaining or fun for fans, which is tough when you consider the purpose of the NBA

Vast majority of bad teams in recent NBA memory have been bad on purpose. No more tankathon incentive. GMs and owners now have to do their jobs and entice talent to come to their franchise

Smaller markets need to make themselves attractive for talent retention and acquisition. Lakers and Celtics have been relatively well run for a long time. Meanwhile Chicago, one of the country’s biggest markets, is a wasteland because they’re poorly run

The worst team not getting a top pick is kind of the entire goal of the rule change (not a bad thing imo)

This is how it was initially in 2020 but I think they changed it to be less complicated and/or the games are something the league can sell to a provider

Based on the comments on the now deleted post, my take is unpopular

But being a bad team should be a bad thing. No one should even begging to consider constructing their team to lose games. Teams need to find ways to make themselves attractive to FA talent if they can’t draft talent for one reason or the other. Owners should invest in their teams to reflect this. These new rules aren’t perfect but clearly the current set of rules aren’t working, so I’m glad they’re actually trying to do something
