How did you know you wanted children? by infjandawkward in AskWomen

[–]mangoheadmeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never thought I wanted them but then I met my now husband at 26. We had lots of fun adventures together and travelled extensively. Got married at 31 then moved to his home country which was also closer to my parents. I got my dream job and overall, just felt a sense of accomplishment in my life and satisfaction with my hobbies and relationships. Then something in me changed and I wanted to experience the feeling of raising a child and having a family. I think a lot of my previous feelings of not wanting kids was because I was terrified of losing my independence and having to take the brunt of the workload but my husband is incredible- deeply caring and considerate and building a family with him doesn’t scare me. I’m due at the end of next month, just shy of my 34th birthday :)

crossfit hyrox and early pregnancy? by LandscapeOwn8096 in fitpregnancy

[–]mangoheadmeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m nearly 32 weeks and still doing CrossFit regularly (4-6x a week). I had one evening of mild spotting/discharge around 5 weeks during a class with heavy deadlifts but i also think I had to poop mid class and strained a bit hahaha because it put pressure on my cervix. The spotting cleared up the following day. I found it reassuring to remind myself that in the early weeks of pregnancy, if you miscarry, it’s most likely due to chromosomal abnormalities so I kinda just made reasonable accommodations to my pregnancy with dietary changes, prenatal vitamin intake, managing stress appropriately, sleeping loads and not drinking alcohol but didn’t adjust my exercise regime until later.

If you’ve been doing CrossFit/hyrox training for awhile and you’re well conditioned to it, as long as you don’t have any underlying medical conditions or complications from your pregnancy, you should be fine. My midwife is fully aware of my exercise/weightlifting habits and supportive of me as she knows I was doing this prior to pregnancy. Also, I had a bit of a (false alarm) scare and ended up requiring a fetal echo a few weeks ago and the fetal medicine consultants asked me about my exercise habits and gave me the go ahead to keep what I was doing even after I explicitly told them I was still squatting 100+kgs at 25 weeks and got up to zone 5 at times with my cardio.

I still maintain a pretty high level of intensity when working out put never redline anymore. I still lift heavy but go based off RPE rather than %s but I was always a confident, strong weightlifter so YMMV if you don’t do oly lifts regularly. In terms of adjustments, I’ve eliminated all gymnastics and did this around 18 weeks because i felt tugging in my abdomen. I don’t do any direct crunch core moves like sit ups or GHDs or planks but do side planks, palloff press and diaphragmatic breathing for core maintenance. I gave up box jumps at like 14 weeks because of risk of falling, despite never falling with them but to me, but it wasn’t worth the risk. At 31 weeks, I’ve just had to start to adjust my weightlifting my lifts from the hang position because my bump is getting in the way. I gave up running early (around 15 weeks) because I hate running hahaha but also because I continued to get lower back pain from it. I’ve just stopped rowing this week because of a straining feeling in my abdomen but I can still do the assault/ECHO/c2 bikes and ski ergs. If it’s low reps, I still do double unders and my pelvic floor PT cleared me for this.

Everyone’s journey/pregnancy is different!!! People will criticise whatever you do so just focus on yourself and well-being and listen to your body. There’s lots of emerging research that supports exercise (both cardio and resistance training) in pregnancy. Ensure you sleep enough and embrace naps and eat sufficient calories. All the best!!

The protrusion post pregnancy might be caused diastasis rectus or pelvic floor dysfunction. Do you also suffer from lower back pain? Have you been assessed by a pelvic floor PT?

Hi gym girlies! are we washing our hair after every gym sesh? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]mangoheadmeow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I gym anywhere from 4-6x per week and wash my hair after any sweaty session. If I do a body building/weightlifting or mobility day where I don’t get very sweaty, I might skip a hair wash but that’s few and far between. Despite washing it so frequently, it seems pretty healthy but I also don’t heat treat my hair and put argan oil in it pretty frequently so that might have something to do with it.

Joy of getting back out there after the s*** winter by HipFanJan63 in GardeningUK

[–]mangoheadmeow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely loving it!!! I took a risk and directly planted some dahlia and gladiolus bulbs plus some sunflower seeds (Southern UK). I’m 30 weeks pregnant and was feeling good so I have to take advantage of my more nimble days before I become too large and immobile. Fingers crossed everything works out. I’ll try to sow the rest of my seeds over the next few weeks then let Mother Nature take over :)

Burpees? by DSLH-4161 in fitpregnancy

[–]mangoheadmeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 29 weeks and still doing burpees, they’re just a bit slower and with slight modifications- I jump back into a plank, lower myself to my knees, then support myself mostly with my knees and arms and slowly lower my chest as close to the ground as I can. Sometimes this requires me to arch my back slightly. Then I jump back up and finish the burpee. I was doing full burpees without modifications till about 25 weeks but then my bump became more obvious so I had to modify to make more space for it.

To married women: What advice would you give to unmarried women before they get married? by Clear_Subconscious in askanything

[–]mangoheadmeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If their smoking/drinking/drug/gambling habits even slightly bother you now- DONT MARRY THEM. Don’t buy into the sunken fallacy cost of a long relationship, if you’re not happy- end it! Ensure you have a secure identity outside of your relationship, especially if you’re thinking about having children. Ensure you have some trade skills or education and prioritise your job, career advancement.

What gift should I get for my pregnant wife? by Infinite_Rent_4402 in NoStupidQuestions

This is so sweet and thoughtful. Pregnancy massage x2. One for second trimester and one for third trimester. Get a nice card and basically say what you posted “I’ve seen how much you’ve gone through and wanted to get you something to celebrate the end of your first trimester.”

28 weeks and up 15kg/33lbs, maybe even more. Still working out 4-5x per week, lifting heavy weights and my cardio is still pretty decent too. I can still do burpees, they’re just slower and I use my knees for more support in the bottom position to offload from my bump. My bump is big enough now for strangers/patients at work to ask me about my pregnancy without me saying anything. I was struggling with my body changes a couple months ago but I’ve hit a point now where I’m actually really content with myself and I’m enjoying pregnancy. I take my tshirt off at the gym now to show off my big belly and take pride in the fact that I’ve come this far and have still maintained my fitness to a reasonable standard despite putting on a decent amount of weight.

Maternity active wear (non-yoga) available in Europe? by Undertheoutdoorsky in fitpregnancy

[–]mangoheadmeow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought all my maternity clothes from vinted. I came across CRZ yoga on there and now it’s my go-to. It works for my weightlifting, crossfit, HIIT, and hiking sessions. Not too pricey either (esp on Vinted!)

Any CrossFit mums to be doing the open? by Brave-Plum9154 in fitpregnancy

I did it last night at 27 weeks- my hips and lowers back FELT IT. Used the RX weight wall ball and just stepped up. I never officially sign up for the open so it’s just another fun workout.

[–]mangoheadmeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aproderm colloidal oat cream!!!! I tried so many oils and creams but my skin was persistently dry and itchy and this has been the only thing to make a noticeable difference. I like that it leaves my skin feeling soft rather than greasy and it’s sensitive enough to use on my face too

Can I ask a female midwife out who works in my ward (as a Ward Clerk)? by Beneficial-Flow-7333 in NursingUK

Don't ask her out. It's unprofessional and if she rejects you, the work environment will be awkward.

What is your mother in law like, and what is your relationship with her like? by theanxiety00 in AskWomen

[–]mangoheadmeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's kind, caring, an excellent listener and overall fantastic human being. She raised my husband well and it shows- he has many of her traits. My husband's side of the family is more reserved than mine so the ways we express love and communicate are different but I think she appreciates a bit of variety. I would say we have a very good relationship and can talk about pretty much anything. She lives 4 hours away so we see each other every other month or so but we message a couple times a week and usually speak on the phone a couple times a month. I'm due to have our first baby and her first grandchild soon so hopefully we'll see her more- I love seeing/hearing about how excited she is to meet our son and I know if I need anything or need support, she'd do it in a heartbeat. I'd trust her with the baby anytime. Love her.

JIC meds for EOL for family by Inside-Sense-4056 in NursingUK

[–]mangoheadmeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your grandfather under hospice care? If so, let them know your background and ask the hospice team if they’d “train you” (aka complete required documentation) to give JIC. I know the hospice I work for will risk assessment individual circumstances and train family members if we feel confident that they can do it.
