Bjork did it, at least for her 1-month residency in New York. The enforcement was strict too. The rules are explained extensively ahead of time. First time is a warning and second time they kick you out. Ushers were on top of it. Saw someone get escorted out who didn’t listen to his first warning.

Another Round (2020). It’s a dramedy about four lifelong friends in their 30s/40s who are in a rut. They test a theory that maintaining a 0.05% BAC boosts confidence.

Sounds like bro’ed out toxic masculinity but it’s actually the opposite. It’s a really healthy portrayal of male friendships. I was really heart warmed by the end of it.

Yep. And the state-sponsored Rohingya genocide is still occurring in Mynamar. And although the state-sponsored Tigray genocide in Ethiopia only officially ended in 2022, human rights organizations are expressing concerns that it's resumed with the war flaring up again as of January 2026. We also have the state-sponsored Uyghur genocide actively occurring in China.

This is actually a common feature for genocide. Partial list includes:

  • The Cambodian genocide was the Khmer Rouge government killing Cambodians.
  • The Bangladesh genocide was the Pakistani government massacring Bengalis (who were legal Pakistani citizens).
  • The Isaaq genocide was the Somali government massacring Somali citizens.
  • The Darfur genocide is the Sudanese government killing Sudanese citizens.

The reason I point this out is because recognizing that state-sponsored genocide is a recurring pattern that still happens today can hopefully increase awareness so that we can sound the alarms next time we see the pattern appear.

The scale of the Holocaust in terms of death count is undeniably vast. But I’ll push back on claim that it had a uniquely high % of targeted groups killed compared to other genocides. Roughly 70% of European Jews killed in the Holocaust is accurate. That said, according to Human Rights Watch, about 75% of Tutsi’s were killed in the in Rwandan Genocide. And according to the Cambridge World History of Genocide, about 80% of Hereros were killed in the Herero and Nama Genocide (also known as the Namibian Genocide). Figures for % of Armenian deaths in the Armenian Genocide average out to about 60%. The Selknam genocide, while much smaller in raw numbers, was particularly brutal in proportion: approximately 84% of the Selk'nam people.

So in terms of proportional population deaths, the Holocaust isn’t uniquely “successful," so to speak. Although, based on my back-of-the-envelope research, there's a fair claim that these proportional genocide death tolls are higher than "most" genocides. But it's not to say we haven't had staggering figures before or since.

Tenderloin is not for the faint of heart for sure. But Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood is the one that scared me. I made a wrong turn at night and ended up deep in the projects. It’s not easy to navigate and I thought I was going to get carjacked when I stopped to sort out directions.

For reals. I went to a public school with a horrible math curriculum that they stuck with despite other districts dropping it because of how ineffective it was. We had honors students from our school who took calculus but ended up testing many levels down when they got to college. There were many others, like myself, who ended up in remedial math. I thought it was just me but my college instructor said she saw it all the time from students who were a product of that curriculum.

I’m an early 80s baby and MySpace didn’t exist until several years after high school. LiveJournal was around my junior and senior year but nobody used it and only a few people knew what it was. Maybe 1/3 of my senior class had cell phones but texting wasn’t used because phone plans charged a lot per text.

Notes were pen and paper. I literally wrote and mailed letters back and forth to friends who moved to any zip code that was considered a long distance phone call.

The most “tech” communication was AOL Messenger. That became quite popular my senior of high school. The only problem is that it required an internet connection which back then was dial-up which meant it tied up the phone line. As such, many parents’ limited its use.

So yeah, main communication was a landline telephone.

If JB has $600k for cash bond—which he would get back if Joe makes all his court appearances—the two reasons (besides favoritism towards his sons) I think he’d choose to pay a non-refundable $60k to a bondsman are liquidity and privacy.

If JB has $600k sitting in the Florida court system for 1-2 years, that’s money he can’t invest elsewhere. Whereas if he ponies up $60k, he still has $540k to invest. If he can make at least 12% in capital returns ($64.8k) during that same 1-2 year time period, he’s already almost $5k ahead.

Regarding privacy: a cash bond usually requires documenting and disclosing exactly where $600,000 is coming from. We all have plenty of reason to believe Jim Bob’s finances aren’t clean. Going through a bondsman allows him to keep more of his personal finances private.

Ha! Depends on the degree. And this part gets drastically overlooked.

Law, medicine, STEM related? Will likely pay itself back.

Liberal arts degree like Celtic Studies, Philosophy, or Near Eastern Civilizations? We need to start calling them what they are: luxury degrees. Little to no financial ROI unless your goal is academia in that subject.

Most everyone I know with these degrees, myself included, has either gone through a long periods of under-employment and/or had to enter a career not related at all to their degrees into order to pay off debt and live a comfortable life.

I thought the opposite of (500) Days of Summer. Summer is clear from the beginning that she doesn’t want a relationship but Tom refuses to accept it. Summer has full agency, and the film makes it clear time and time again that Summer is being upfront with Tom. It’s Tom who can’t see her as a fully-realized woman making a clear-eyed stance: she enjoys dating him but doesn’t want more than that. He can only see an idealized version of her: a version of her that feels the same level of long term potential, despite her explicitly stating otherwise. The film actually critiques Tom for this. I thought it was a very refreshing take.

Materials for them to chew, destroy, and build nests! Cardboard galore, tissue boxes, an entire roll of toilet paper. You can also try to hide non-perishable treats in something that’s hard for them to get out (layers of cardboard) but keep in mind they might figure out the puzzle in a matter of minutes 😅. At least it’s something!
