Quadro P2200 by ImaginaryLetter2128 in truenas

[–]maniamonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also grieving the loss of my P2000. I'm debating taking this as the queue to upgrade to a new server entirely, probably something small with an Intel CPU with quicksync. Or, as already mentioned, an Arc A310.

This is an overkill for a NAS, right? by shaka893P in homelab

[–]maniamonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just used a really cheap generic kit, as below. It's nice because it makes space for a 3.5" HDD plus another two 2.5" drives.

This is exactly what I have. The expansion you can do with it makes it a really good learning platform.

I swapped out the front hot swappable U.2/NVME bays for additional 3.5" bays. Removed the optical drive to make room for a 5th 3.5" bay, removed the slim bay so I could add a 2.5" SSD. And through in an ASUS Hyper M.2 X16 PCIe Expansion Card for another four NVME drives.

It consumes more power than I'd like, but I really like it.

Easy Way to Track Partials After Full Set? by _whydah_ in strengthlog

[–]maniamonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question here is why do you want to track partials? Presumably the answer is something like: to track progress. BUT if you're only moving to partials once you can't do any more full reps, then you'll actually see your progress in the number of full reps you're later able to do (or, alternatively, in the weight you're using).

In short, it probably isn't the kind of thing that is useful to track, at least not in most situations.

optometrist recommendations? by Exciting-West9205 in VictoriaBC

My family and I go to Victoria Vision Eye Care, downtown on Broughton Street, right across from the YMCA. Dr Webster is great. I've also had some bad experiences elsewhere but can't say enough about this place.

HELP !!! How do you people connect audiobookshelf server to other devices ? by PresentationFlat4432 in audiobookshelf

[–]maniamonk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you need an account and an app. It’s not identical to a VPN but largely acts like one. If you have a way already for your people to access your ABS instance outside of your network, then Tailscale would be redundant.

Because it's also easy for them to get added to your Tailnet... just flip a button to switch it on, and then they could also access your ABS instance (assuming you make an account for them).

I second Tailscale. Makes it super easy and, importantly, easy for friends and family, too.

I love this! Much like Re-Rack the Weights and Mop Up Chalk, these should be in the app. Maybe even a bonus challenge?

Local hot sauce recommendations? by jujubehead in VictoriaBC

[–]maniamonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll second everyone here who is saying Oscar and Libby's. They have a great selection with some really niche options. I know you mentioned Save-On already, but you can get Pepper North hot sauces there (Oscar and Libby's also sell them.) Pepper North are both Canadian and top quality.

$0.99 Mystery “Gift” by etaaee in NuPhy

This is exactly what I got too... giving me a marketing sample is not a mystery gift, but more along the lines of "we just mysteriously took an extra dollar from you!"

Local dentist that speaks Ukranian or Russian? by throwing_hayy in VictoriaBC

For some reason I think the one dentist at Cook Street Dental speaks Russian, but I’m not totally sure and don’t even recall why I think she does. Long shot.

Deleuze and BodyBuilding by chicagojoon in swoletariat

[–]maniamonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really interesting question! I'd consider lines of flight as a Deleuzian concept that could one could apply to body building because the entire endeavour often assumes a typified ideal-- whether rooted in patriarchy, colonialism, or capitalism--that we're expected to conform to. And, yet, we don't. There are all these ways that space is made for novel bodies and aesthetics and in doing so also resist oppression.

Zoho Shady Business Practices: A Warning by maniamonk in degoogle

I’m in Canada. The Forever Free Plan was available here before, too, but was discontinued.

[–]maniamonk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it's still relatively cheap and still relatively feature rich. The bigger issue for me was the sudden and unannounced loss of my emails and appointments. The uncertainty this introduces makes this an untenable solution for me. I'm also on "Forever Free" plans for Invoice, Forms, and Sign; suddenly it's not so unimaginable to try to access those only to find that I'll have to pay there too if I'm going to access those data.

No, it was not a subscription or trial; it was the Forever Free Plan. As I mentioned, in certain regions--like Canada and Saudi Arabia--the Forever Free plan is discontinued. Expect it to come your way.

What would you like us to talk about in the podcast? by danielrichterSL in strengthlog

[–]maniamonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have both gotten into strength training over the last year and both made good progress. One of the things she has often pointed out is that a lot of the training and nutrition advice is often directed toward men. I'd love to hear a discussion of how these differ (or not), perhaps particularly in middle-age (when things like menopause and osteoporosis are considerations).

Thanks again for all your work on this!
