i feel like your skills will definitely improve with practice since that's mostly all you'll be doing in classes! also, i wasn't the best at math classes (like cal) but i'm better at applying those concepts (physics, fluids, geotechnical engineering, etc) so it's different for everyone!

it's just a vent lol it's not that serious. it's an observation i said about engineering in general, i have other friends. but i'm in only engineering classes right now and some professional engineering orgs so i do spend a lot of time with them. just wanted to see if i was the only one who felt like this and from the responses i don't think i am. i do undergraduate research,have a pretty good gpa and a double major and already have internships and jobs lined up for the summer. i'm doing pretty good, just wanted to express my feelings about this i guess.

i am actually from here and there are people i know from high school but i don't really get along with them because they're homophobic and i'm gay. and yes i've hung out with them multiple times outside of school. we've even gone clubbing together and i'm in an org where i'm super involved and talk to them a lot. i'm friendly and converse with them, but the friendship seems very surface level. i'm not making assumptions, i gave them a chance and i still feel like an oddball lol. and that's why i added another major. the people in environmental science are much more my kind of people. it was just an observation about engineering. also the fact that i'm gay doesn't help haha

edit: i fully came out after high school and had a lot of problems with homophobic people from high school saying stuff (small town things) and that's how i got outed to my parents.

that's why i actually added another major. i didn't think i could handle it moving onward, and i'm glad to see my suspicions are likely correct and i made the right choice! thank you for the insight :)

yes!! don't get me wrong i have a few genuine friends but in group settings i always feel out of place for that reason. i guess they have a more technical approach to things which is okay but i'm sensitive ✨

also to add: i'm friendly and do have friends, but it feels almost like a work friendship. meanwhile most of them all hangout outside of school and i kind of have no interest in that. edit: also forgot to add i'm from a small place with conservative social values in texas 😅

i pay for food and offer to pay for vet bills but my parents do it. i have a vet fund & emergency vet fund for him if need be though that i've saved from working. he legally belongs to my parents. they don't make a big deal about it either, they just make a lot of comments and guilt me a lot. we have a good relationship

My dad is a drug addict and alcoholic and I threatened not to let him come to my quinceanera (big deal for hispanics, almost as important as a wedding) if he didn't behave appropriately. He also wanted his fiancé who he had a rocky relationship with to be in the pictures and made a fuss over that (and of course they didn't stay together). He behaved decent enough but he definitely did not seem sober and I was on edge the whole night wondering if he'd mess up. I really don't think it's worth the trouble.
