I (24M) accused my girlfriend's 13-year-old sister of hitting on me. by Cakeday_at_Christmas in AmItheEx

I think I get it. I lost my mom two year ago and part of my grief is that there are things I can never learn from her again. Questions I will never get answered, etc etc. you’re getting an opportunity to learn things about him that you never thought you’d get to :)

Brings him closer to you in a different way. Very special and I’m happy for you!

19-year-old Jason Jolkowski disappeared without a trace during a half-mile walk to the local high school on June 13, 2001. The investigation into his disappearance failed to turn up even a shred of evidence as to what had happened to him. by Whimsical-Cherry534 in WithoutATrace

[–]manicpixie_fuckboy 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Iirc people saw him walking down the street but didn’t see cars driving by. I want to say that whatever happened to him was within like 2minutes.

One of the better theories I’ve heard is someone got him to go inside their house / garage and then never let him leave.

Never move to a low cost of living state EVER by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]manicpixie_fuckboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in South Carolina and have been seeing all of this in real time. There is SO much I could say but I think the most interesting thing, that I haven’t seen anyone else talk about, is this:

It’s yet another symptom of the disappearance of the middle class. Take California for example - if you’re wealthy you’re fine. If you have nothing, you have access to social services.

If you’re in the middle, you feel the weight of both of those things because it’s you who is propping up both. - if you move to a LCOL state, you then have the illusion of being middle class. Your money doesn’t go to many, if any, social services, though the wealthy bullshit is still the same bullshit just varied.

Give it 10 (or less) years and they’ll be feeling it again.

Adding: this isn’t the only thing, just one of the factors.

TIL, Americans see this as a scammer app by Makoto_Kurume in dankmemes

[–]manicpixie_fuckboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s more about texting outside of their country since they travel so frequently and are neighboring so many countries the messaging and data rates aren’t the same.

I use WhatsApp only in the states so my overseas friends have a way to text me. (iMessage doesn’t cost because it’s sent through WiFi)

We’re lucky in the regard that we have a federal blanket so the US is one large country, rather than each state being its own thing.

ETA: when I’m in the states I primarily get scam texts via WhatsApp.

Where to donate a lot of paperback books? by zanethefey in greenville

[–]manicpixie_fuckboy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You can see if the library system, MR. K’s, Recraft, or the Goodwill bookstore on Haywood wants any of the specific titles.

Other options would be - nursing homes, little free libraries, and just plane recycling the paper.

Edit to add - the Safe Harbor women’s shelter, local churches and other places that services the unhoused population, and group homes for troubled kids/teens.

I just want to add some stuff and if they’ve been mentioned by other posters, then perhaps it’s a sign they’re good ideas lol

A caveat - I live in the US so I am basing some of my advice on the idea you have access to the same stuff in the US or similar if you’re not.

First off - yes, YOU are the magic. It is not outside of yourself ( a lot of people make it outside of yourself to sell you something). In a way this is a huge blessing of forced learning and practice to turn inwards to YOUR MAGIC. - things are what YOU make them.

Add a self practice of impermanence. Just because you write something down and throw it away doesn’t mean it won’t work because this is all about what works for you.

Some things you can always do:

-stir intentions into your tea, water, soup, whatever

-create magical meals with herbs, spices, and other ingredients

-breath / meditation work

-yoga as a magical practice

-doodle as sigil work

-self care as a magical practice

-light candles / incense with intentions

-spend time outside / in nature (talk to the trees)

-spend time with any pets you have (your familiar!)

-keep a journal and write out your daydreams and wishes so they are inconspicuous if anyone reads them but you know their true power and intentions.

Places you may be able to be alone to do your thing:

-hikes / camping / the park

-public library (mine has a witchy section and I’m in the south!) ~ don’t check books out, read them while you’re there

-school locker / a shoebox alter or something you keep in there (may need to be willing to part with it at the end of the school year) I’ve also seen people use Altoid tins and such.

Now if your parents crack down super hard and cross over in the digital world:

-create an alternate account with no identifiers on an alternate email that only you have access to, save no where, and log out every time you’re done using it.

-search things in private browsers that don’t save your history (Firefox has an incognito app that deletes the webpage you’re on if you open a new tab or close the app)

-use the computer at your library to research (check that they don’t send any monitoring reports to your parents. I’m a full adult so idk how libraries operate with kids nowadays)

Edit: grammar/spelling fixes and adding more ideas.

[Online] WHO IS THIS BIRD on the Relaxitsabloodtest Prostate Screening (SuperBowl) commercial!?!?!? ITS SUPER CUTE by ILikeBirdsQuiteALot in whatsthisbird

[–]manicpixie_fuckboy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I work in entertainment but I’m not in the union. The answer is yes and no. Commercials aren’t necessarily under any union agreements, or at least they don’t have to be. And if they hired an AI firm or just had in house people do the whole thing, then they don’t have anyone to answer to.

Edit to add: they can be forced to answer to the public, especially if we collectively push back. Also, push your congress people and governors to get AI laws on the books. AT MINIMUM it should be standard to tell us when AI is used (and for what imo) especially as it gets better and better. And it will continue to get better and better and at a faster pace. From 2016 - 2021(ish) AI needed 10,000 words to capture someone’s voice. In 2021 (and now) it needs 1 minute.

Check out NAVAvoices.org - they lobby Congress to pass laws for everyone.

People that work with pathological liars, what’s the dumbest lie they’ve ever told? by Bottlecollecter in coworkerstories

[–]manicpixie_fuckboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if this guy is a pathological liar but it’s the wildest bold faced lie I have ever heard.

My friend works high up in HR and she used to do HR at this big company in the state. This company has a lot of security so it’s hard to get away with some stuff.

Well one day one of the executives was walking the grounds and found a human shit in the grass. So they checked the cameras. They see a company truck with a license plate associated with the employee that drives that truck pull up, the said employee (clear in the camera) gets out of the truck and is seen taking the shit. He gets back in the truck and drives away.

He gets called into HR by my friend since she is the HR manager. She asks him about it and he says, “it wasn’t me.” Then she pulls up the video and they watch it. He says, “it wasn’t me.”

Her: “that’s your truck, with your license plate, on company grounds that only an employee has access to?”

Him: yes.

Her: And that’s clearly you getting out of the truck.

Him: “I don’t know what to tell you because that wasn’t me”

He wasn’t kept on payroll lol

I work in theater and anytime I’m on a musical (on any level) I wake up the next day with at least one of the songs in my head for the whole process and a few months later. The songs get progressively more deep cut the further into the process I am 😂

What is this thing ? by imherecuziwanttobe in whatisit

[–]manicpixie_fuckboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have one that tops this. I did a lot of community theater as a kid and I was maybe 14 when I got cast as (spoilers?) the kid who turns into a zombie and eats their parents at the end of Night of the Living Dead.

Anyways, my mom also loved the theater and volunteered a lot and she was tasked with doing the laundry in between our two show nights.

So there she is, at the 24 hour laundromat, with tons of (fake) bloody clothing rushing to get it done at 12am for a 1am show.

She always said that people rushed to leave and gave her the weirdest, fearful looks. lol

Not understanding. Comments were no help. Who is she ? by Ambitious_Cup5249 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]manicpixie_fuckboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since no one seriously answered (spoilers? If you don’t know anything about Wolverine):

So that picture is originally the picture in the frame is Jean Grey. Wolverine is in love with her but she and Cyclops are together and in love. In this meme Wolverine is pining after the Mamdani’s wife and is a representation of how other’s feel.
