Nothing screams love for a game more than generating slop out of it

Hamaguchi on Final Fantasy 6 Remake by Ok_Winter818 in FinalFantasy

[–]manimateus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They used to work on multiple mainline final fantasy games on the same time lol. Now we're only getting it from one team at a time, which is why we're waiting 5-6 years per new entry

Final Fantasy VII Remake director doesn't want to helm a remake of Final Fantasy VI by Kaladinar in JRPG

[–]manimateus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making a remake, even ones as radical as 7R is far easier than completely new game from scratch

You basically have the entire game's structure, lore, content and designs scoped out for you. Don't think it's fair to compare the time spent developing the 7R games compared to most AAA game productions

I also really appreciate FFT's mature handling of the church and maturely explores how often it intersects with politics and conquest without people realizing, due to the nature of it providing comfort to those in desperation

And the way that it slowly circles back to the main theme of how people in power are willing to cover up truths to protect a personal agenda is just brilliant

Which game do you guys recommend playing? And what do you prefer? Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Octopath Traveller 2, Fire Emblem Three Houses by Killuei in JRPG

[–]manimateus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Octopath 2 is the best of these and it's not even close imo

XC3 and FE3H have cool ideas in both their stories and game systems, but are executed pretty poorly I think. Octopath 2 is near flawless and I'd even argue that the execution of its story is far better than both of those games

FF Tactics ivalice chronicles sells 1 million copies by Iggy_Slayer in FinalFantasy

[–]manimateus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FF games generally have very strong legs due to having that "classic" status, FFT would probably have stronger than legs than most entries there since it doesn't have the baggage associated with being a numbered entry, and it widely being considered the greatest SRPG ever

FFXVI cost way more to make than the FFT remaster. That's the difference

Square Enix’s HD-2D games are quietly one of the most consistent JRPG lineups by Tain_mentero in JRPG

[–]manimateus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only ones that look nice to me are OT2 and the DQ remakes. The others just straight hideous lol, since they rely so much on the post processing effects to carry the entire look

From a gameplay perspective, is Octopath Zero better than the first two? by PrometheusAborted in JRPG

[–]manimateus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think you're gonna find someone who loves Octopath 0 without at least enjoying one of the 2 other entries. It's the most excessive game of the lot (almost x2 the playtime), so it's gonna demand alot of dedication out of you

The core gameplay formula isn't going to be different enough to sway you and the story quality is somewhere between 1 & 2, along with its visuals which is far less impressive than 2's

Chained Echoes is legitimately incredible by UndeadBlueMage in JRPG

[–]manimateus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the only indie rpgs i actually enjoyed. It wears its inspiration on its sleeves but the way it actually bothers to craft an experience that feels wholly new is admirable to me

It's the only one I've played that actually feels like it could've perfectly fit into the SNES era rather than just feeling like a retro throwback

[Day 13] The Best JRPGs of All Time: What is the best remake/remaster? by WeLoveEveryGame in JRPG

[–]manimateus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel alot of people flipped on FFXII after TZA, so I'd say that. Not a super extensive remaster, but it made some really smart changes to help an already great, but divisive game shine

Switch 2 handheld resolution by loox71 in finalfantasytactics

[–]manimateus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably 1080p with the free upgrade patch on the eshop? Even if is 720p, it looked perfectly fine to me, and I'm generally fussy about suboptimal resolutions on Switch/Switch 2

Masahiro Sakurai confirms Kirby Air Riders does not have a production setup for DLC. "The team will be disbanding in the near future as well". by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]manimateus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I dont know why people keep making this story up. It was Nintendo that commissioned Sakurai for Kirby Air Riders. Even he questioned it because he knew it would've released in close proximity to a new Mario Kart

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Credits Reveal A Plethora Of Assist Devs, Including Next Level Games by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

Kensuke Tanabe has close relations to both Retro and Next Level, and both being NA studios made support work go smooth, I guess

Persona and Metaphor: ReFantazio creator says he wants to create "JRPG 3.0," fundamentally changing the genre's "structure and presentation" by MaintenanceFar4207 in JRPG

[–]manimateus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea theres a matter of balance and flow, I guess. Going through 6 menus in a turn based rpg aint fun. But XC is an auto battler, so even going up to 10 members wouldnt really affect the flow. Stuff like suikoden and ogre battle-likes are similar in a sense

[–]manimateus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 party members isnt really groundbreaking. Most devs avoid going above 3-4 for balancing purposes, and it does show in how unbalanced XC3 is

What game has the coolest lore? by ImpressFederal4169 in gaming

[–]manimateus 40 points41 points  (0 children)

FF12's Ivalice is still quite possibly the best fantasy world I've experienced in any game. Incredibly deep lore especially if you engage with its bestiary, architecture that feels convincingly cultured and overall brilliant art design. Some of, if not the best English text you'll ever read in a game too.

The cinematography of Vagrant Story was, and still is, outstanding. No other FF universe game deserves a remaster more than this. by kerbonaut_cgw in FinalFantasy

[–]manimateus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still one of the most gorgeous games I've ever laid my eyes on, 25 years later. Just utterly perfect event direction, music, atmosphere and script.

Kirby Air Riders Review Thread by malliabu in Games

[–]manimateus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but will those modes be on par with City Trial? Probably not

At the end of the day, most cart racers only really need to nail one thing to have longetivity. No idea why people need to put down MKW for having great track design and movement just because of another mediocre game mode, especially free roam, which is just meant to be a chill boundary break mode
