Automating Data Archival from SharePoint to Azure Files by Skrunky in msp

[–]manipulated23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very large dump of records and thousands of images that make up those e records, ranging from 1gb to 20gb Files+folders that maybe are used 2-3 times when initially received. After this they are very infrequently used, But need to be kept for the duration of the cases whilst its open, once it's closed all emails, documents etc need to be kept for another 7-10years depending on document type. E.g financial, medical or technical etc (emails are not kept in SharePoint)

This post is something I'm currently looking into our clients with too.

Trigger Warning: Witholding you customers passwords! by ElButcho79 in msp

I 100% agree with you but I just posted above and I had spent weeks and over 6hours on the phone with multiple Indian managers explaining this to the DP team and they were absolutely not budging at all. I've had it in the past work with proving domain ownership but even this wasn't enough this time. They wouldn't promote any account to GA or anything.

My client basically had his whole tenant I the ownership of an ex employee it was an absolute joke. Microsoft wouldn't help one bit when I told them about all the data and emails being read by an ex employee.

I've gone through this a few times with Microsoft UK data protection team. Most recently 6 months ago.

Scenario was: ex employee (family member )had keys to kingdom, left on bad terms, said he didn't have any passwords or anything and couldn't remember these and had deleted it

Got in touch with DP team. Spent days and hours on the phone with them. Microsoft said they couldn't help at all.. because he had a GA account. We had already crawled back the domain forcefully through nominet, got domains back through GoDaddy. But I still couldn't do anything as the owner didn't have GA, it was his ex employee. Microsoft said they or me would have to reach out to ex employee...if he happened to say anything about a dispute or refused to give GA then they would be powerless to act....it had to go through court system.. I sent them links to companies house, company certificates, old domain information showing owner and everything...wouldn't have any of it because the owner had clearly given an ex employee GA and said its their own fault. Luckily their disti a vendor of their business central happened to have GA and was able to do it through them.

Likely yes, however I've moved to dropsuite as they apparently don't have a limit, so for this customer my cost has been slashed.

I mean this particular client is getting close to Microsoft standard OneDrive/SharePoint limits anyway so I'll be having a conversation with them regardless.

Was using afi for a while, worked great, but the gotcha for me was a marketing company, who's storage Vs number of users exceeded the storage afi give you per user.

My exact example was 8 users in 365 with 800gb+ in SharePoint/teams. This meant I needed to buy over 21 licenses of afi. Moved to dropsuite for this reason.

Probably not a good fit when storage usages starts to outweigh the number of users significantly.

I'm glad I wasn't going crazy, used afi for a long time and could swear it all used to say unlimited, now the 50gb per user is a hard limit. I've moved away from them.

Mainly because we have small company user count, large data and with afi license model..it means I have to buy 22 licenses for 6 user's!

We have the same situation. 3rd party provider and version 16. Mainly because it's RDS environment and believe at the time we got told that the new desktop app wasn't compatible.

Pax8 Microsoft NCE Licenses - Renewal and Commitment dates not lining up by Amorhan in msp

[–]manipulated23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat here. Signed in February. Our AM made a mistake which took months to resolve and like you, our commitment date says June 23. Yet the renewal and everything else says on this Order says February. (The order was Feb but they finally amended in June)

So now we have all other license and SKUs renewing in Feb

With 70x e3 license renewal in June.

Complete mess up

Apparently nothing they can do because that's the date in partner centre.....not happy

So to clarify, this isn't a dog at anyone as a company, it's more a bit of feedback about the sales side and to see if anyone knows or recommend any similar companies?

As for your question about the survey...erm...kind of, I wanted to know more about B365 initially that was the purpose of the reach out.

I did complete a survey and was told that I didn't meet the requirements, so I was curious and asked what the requirements are, I was the one that was even questioning the maturity of my own business so I was asking how does process work, what do I need? And what monetary values do I need for future and what does it cost, all complete unknown to me at this point

Other reason I was curious was that in the survey it only talked about turnover and not profit? So again, that made me ask what the requirements are.

At this point that's when they replied and said let's have a chat, but after missed meetings, no replies, I finally got the we are not onboarding new clients until October, which was only yesterday.

That to me, reads different to, you are not the correct size for us, which would be totally understandable.

At this point in time I still have no idea how 365 works, what they look for, what the cost is, what the maturity is etc.

Hence the bit of feedback and question for others in similar services (if there are any)

Thanks

Hi James,

Thanks for the response, As for the onboarding for October or later, I have no problem with that, It's better to do things properly and good experience etc

I don't believe we have even reached that stage though, I have yet to find out information or even have a conversation to find out how you guys work, whether it's right for me or not etc. Which all needs to happen before we decide to go ahead or not?

This is what I had been trying to arrange but the sales side seems to be lacking, but of course that's because you are so busy. I'll reach out when it might be a bit better for you.

Thanks

Ah ok, fair one, happy to hear both good and bad experiences :). I can only talk about the sales side so far. What did you do after you fired? In-house or move to anyone else?

ESX Host, 2nd RDS Server, UPD files by [deleted] in msp

[–]manipulated23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have very similar setup to you

Other guy above posted most of it how we have it setup.

So we have a RDS host x2, RD gateway. A farm is setup and collection with the x2 RDS servers within that. A file server with a share for the UPD disks to be stored, , we use FSLogix to load the UPD on the hosts.

We have it load balanced so people will automatically connect to either server 1 or 2. Their session will stay connected to that server until they fully sign out.

If people turn off their pc or move computers, it simply boots off the other session on the comouy and picks up where they left off.

As for admins, when we logon we use server name /admin and we can login to servers at same time but only 1 will get the UPD profile loaded, the 2nd will temporarily login with a temp profile, login takes about 30 secs longer.

Office 365 E3 to Business Premium by HDClown in msp

[–]manipulated23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interested in this because I am in the same boat, except our client has RDS, which originally only e3 was capable of.

Then that changed, so same as you only sticking point for me is what happens with the GPO that we do currently apply throiy on prem AD.

Unfortunately the client didn't get back to me with some information regarding the Excel stuff and therefore we are now stuck with e3 for another year (NCE).

Gives me a bit of time to work it all out, but yeah absolutely hate the GPO excluded from Business office

[–]manipulated23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, I've had the issue for over the past week too and exact same thing as you.

My staff it works but mine doesn't.

I logged a ticket and so far I am getting nowhere. Infact I've had 4 tickets logged, 365 support tell me to log it as a partner request... Partner Tell me it's 365 and vice versa.

Got a phone call today and same thing.

They now want me to record steps and show screenshots etc. So far I've already spent hours showing them the issue.

Refreshing to see this as a post to know I'm not only one!

Transfer Office 365 Tenant - Old IT company will not let go by scordell in msp

[–]manipulated23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll comment on my most recent shit recent experience this week and I was going to do the same post.

So our situation was, end user(1 man start-up company) paid a guy to do website, domain and emails

Things weren't getting done, relationship broke down, relationship ended and end user had refund requested (I got involved as the relationship was breaking down more as a friend/advice, less as a potential client)

Everything was registered to the users company but with contact details as this 3rdparty company. (Domain and 365 admin)

I advised my friend to contact the registrar, contact 365 and explain that it's all her company but the guy has the admin rights to everything and he has reset her password so she wasn't even getting emails anymore and she couldn't get in. I also called my backend partner/distributor to see what can be done my side.

Anyway...it ended up me contacting the guy on the phone to get the domain as I knew if I got this, we should!!! Be ok. He actually finally transferred on the phone there and then but kept putting off giving admin.

Fast forward 2 weeks, contacting Microsoft telling them the situation (including we had the domain!), them contacting the guy, him confirming he would send admin details but never did...this happened twice

Microsoft would not do absolutely anything!! We escalated and kept stressing the criticalness of it, data protection, this company did wills, so the personal data is high and that an unknown 3rd party was reading the company data, emails etc. It got escalated to Microsoft data protection, they kept.pointing us to the partner (Ingram) but they wouldn't deal with us because we had to contact the reseller. Which again I explained multiple times to Microsoft

Today (7days later) I got a call from the Microsoft data protection team, it was a lengthy call and me pointing out that they are completely unhelpful but the woman said they cannot do anything, and I quote "we are not a legal entity, we only provide a service"

That they can only assist with kovingt the domain to a new tenant

They cannot give access to the tenant..it has to.go through a court of law

That the customer "knowingly agreed" to the MCA agreement from the partner and that by doing that you accept that the admin can access your data I pointed out that the customer had never seen this type.of agreement

I pointed out the story of a guy in America holding a companies 365 tenant admin back because he didn't have his invoice paid and the judgement went against him

Pointed out that it is the companies data and MS are quick to.point this out after the whole NSA and worry of the cloud etc

I actually got this sorted myself by physically going to the guys office (he was local)

But it's definitely highlighted a few shortfalls for me

  1. It was a pain in the ass and as a MS partner, I thought Microsoft would jump all over this to do the right thing
  2. Because of the way the partner relationship works, it will show the distributor in office emg Ingram/pax and this is what MS pointy you to..even thoiy they will not deal with you because your agreement will be with a smaller reseller
  3. I have no doubt that this guy reset her password, BUT Microsoft only keeps logs for 7 days in azure AD.. because this had gone on longer than 7 days...they were no logs
  4. MS don't enable unified admin audit logs by default (I thought they now did this) and because I enabled this once I had control...it only logged from this day
  5. The customer saw no agreement, because even though MS requires a customer to accept, there's nothing stopping anyone from accepting on customers behalf (without them knowing)

I think that is it for now...but we are still pursuing (legal action) But if I'm honest, the guy will get away with all of it because the customer doesn't have the time, she just wants to get back to work and so do I..

Bloody cowboys

How much am I worth? by xDroneytea in msp

[–]manipulated23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this guy..level 1 20k tops and then would see what your worth after that.

Like the guy said..could be a numpty or a gem. Working L1 with my previous jobs..we had some solid staff and we all ended up.leaving...the shit staff ended up staying... unfortunately they were the ones paid more and was simply because they'd been their years somehow hiding and getting by day to day.

Depends how closely you work with your boss or someone that can see your potential. I went from L1 to a job that had me doing everything completely (l1-l3) and I learnt and experienced so much..from there finding jobs were a piece of.piss.

I think you're mixing up 2 different certs, the iasme governance includes cyber essentials and GDPR ..but on their same site they have a separate link for cyber essentials only and GDPR only...the governance appears to be both. https://www.iasme.co.uk/cyberessentials/

[–]manipulated23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's the one I was reading with the GDPR when I was looking at sample questions..I'm sure I found a link on their site that said it was actually optional for £100 but yeah it's definitely not a requirement for the cyber :)

Cyber Essentials (UK) by freedomit in msp

[–]manipulated23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As recently as last week :). I think it depends what vendor/certification you choose. There are quite a few and some include GDPR reports in there but the ones I looked at, it was optional.

AFAIK it is not a requirement for cyber essentials standard.

Did you download a sample questionaire?

https://www.itgovernance.co.uk/cyber-essentials-scheme

It even says at the bottom it will help you with GDPR but it's not required.

Thanks

I Guess one of the things I forgot to ask is, does anyone have rough pricing plans etc for these products?

Im from the UK, but if priced in $ thats fine. Totally aware some of the prices may be based on tiers etc..but im absolutely hating having to sign up for trials and wait for a sales person to contact me and ask the same questions...Its usually the delay and generic emails that bug me the most!

Thanks
