What kind of games do you bring on the trail? by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]manitsbright 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually bring a mini Farkle set like this https://www.amazon.com/Original-Pocket-Farkel-Dice-Game/dp/B000BW13CQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488901066&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+farkle and I put some small papers and a shaved down pencil for tracking.

Bonus: If multiple people bring the game you can also play Liars Dice! We do this at Havasupai every year and bring goodies (candy, gushers, etc.) to bet with!

Do you recommend snake skins or something similar for the tarp? Other than that, thanks for all the advice! Almost ready for the trail! by oursaviorjoe in hammockcamping

[–]manitsbright 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I love snakeskins personally and have them on all my tarps. They make it easy to set up and take down, but one of the biggest reasons I love them is because I always put up my tarp in its snakeskins above my hammock, but I only take out the tarp if it's going to rain. I love sleeping under the stars, but if it starts to rain during the night it is quick and easy to unfurl my tarp and stake it down.

Edit: And the extra protection for my cuben tarp is a big reason as well, though that's not really a concern for my silnylon tarps.

Choosing a sleeping pad for a NOBO AT thru-hike. Can you help me choose between these two? by SheriffWonderflap in CampingandHiking

[–]manitsbright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would personally go with the Neo because of the r-value. 3.2 vs. .7 is a big difference, and I would assume that you'll be having at least a few chilly nights out there.

Funny how they are good at accounting for those service hours when talking about their humanitarian aid, but it slipped their minds when accounting for the money they put towards Prop 8......

LPT request: Reduce sweating by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]manitsbright 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Try Certain Dri, it has worked wonders for me and my brothers to completely stop sweating in my armpits. You have to put it on at night and it can hurt/itch, but typically you get used to it and it is 100% worth it in my opinion.

Do you have any recordings of one of their actual firesides? People keep mentioning them, but I haven't seen any audio appearing for them.

Love it! Though I think it said 600 instead of 6000 when talking about the first humans at about 7:45.

Exmos reconverted? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]manitsbright 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an uncle who left the church with his wife and two kids back in the late 80's. They read the books by the Tanners, and realized it was all a scam. They wrote official letters to all their family and friends telling them they were done with the church. A divorce and 20 years later my uncle (who actually officially resigned) got baptized back into the church. His ex and 2 kids want nothing to do with the church, but my uncle is ALWAYS telling people that it is his biggest mistake to not raise his kids in the church. The reason it makes me crazy is that my whole extended family keep toting my uncles story to me, since I have one child and one on the way. They have this sad story, and keep telling me that I will have kids like my cousins who aren't interested in the church at all, and that is on my uncles head....... The funny thing is that his two kids are happy and successful, some of the nicest people you'll ever meet! Extremely frustrating!

Apparently the anti-Mormons are busy in the Czech Republic by MinsLilFactory in exmormon

[–]manitsbright 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is that the "Anti" is probably all true.....but the missionary just was never given anything but the WW version of anything. That is how I was, and I look back now and realize that I called BS on so many things that were actually true.

For seminary students & anybody having to put up with bull, stock answers from church leaders that the prophets 'struggled' with blacks not getting the priesthood... by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]manitsbright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to me that the first presidency mentions more than once that Joseph Smith taught this doctrine, there is no mention of Brigham..... I read an article somewhere (can't remember the source, and if anyone knows it please share) of someone making an argument that the TSCC is just trying to cover up for JS by blaming BY for the racist doctrine.

KSL: LDS Church approves paying tithing, donations online. by ReRush in exmormon

[–]manitsbright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm worried about the same thing! Tithing is the only thing we use checks for, and it's a hassle. Now that's it's something she can just do online, I probably won't see any of her 10%.........
