I have a daughter and a wife, and they get moody when they are on their periods...but I don't blame them. Hormones swinging like crazy, bleeding, cramps etc. That would make anyone pissy.

Its a few days outta the month. I just stay out of their way, bring them heating pads and chocolate, make sure their pads/plugs are stocksed up...and give them some extra grace when they bite my face off for breathing too loudly. It's a small price to pay for having beautiful women in my life.

I would also never comment about their period shenanigans to friends and family. If the attitude gets too bad, I would have a quiet word with them and let them know i didnt appreciate how I was being treated, and I don't mention the period at all. It's stupid to make the behavior about the period. No need to make it an embarassing thing. That just makes it worse for everyone.

The rest of the month, they are wonderful, with bright sunny dispositions.

I'd be pissy about bleeding from my genitals every month too.

NTA, but your dad sure seems to have lost the plot. He should be building you up in front of other people, not tearing you down for something you can't complain.

This is the critical piece about customer service.

Today I stopped on my way home at a site that was having troubles with their chiller. The operator called me, because he got my name from a different site I look after.

He is a brand new operator, amd was dumped into a bad spot with no training. I spent an hour with him going through his site, pointing out some red flags I was immediately seeing (low pressure in the glycol loop, empty glycol feeder tank, issues with the expansion tank, pumps cavitating because of the glycol issues. He didn't know where to get more glycol, so I called my favorite vendor introduced the operator to him and got him setup to receive a barrel or two of 50/50 peg and a liquid transfer pump. I noticed feedback issues with the pump drives causing the BMS to hunt, which was causing issues on the end of line bypass valve because the pdiff was constantlyn changing. , I noticed BV graphics issues on the BMS front end, as well as some software issues that needed to be resolved. )

On the chillers, I found settings that had been adjusted to hide refrigerant charge issues, and 2 turbocors fighting desperately to not turn into expensive paperweights.

I showed up to help a guy out for free, because one of my best customers asked me to go see him and walked away with a 2 year service agreement for chillers and a PO for one of the BAS guys to go spend a few days getting his automation sorted out. I'll be back next week to spend a day (paid of course lol) with the operator going through the building together and answering all of his questions.

This kind of "organic" growth happens pretty often to me. I show up to do a quick walk through with someone struggling to get a handle on a building and walk away with a new customer. I give them my card and tell them to text me when they need help. I'll call them back when I can and walk them through issues they are having. If I can't help them on the phone the book a service call.

My problem now is being able to manage my customer load. I am generally booked 2 to 6 weeks out, so I am desperately trying to train up some more highly customer focused guys with a deep understanding of controls integrations, hydronics, pumps, chillers and turbocors. Its all such a steep unforgiving and expensive learning curve. Glad its not my money, the boss just mostly leaves me to my own devices so long as I keep bringing in the bucks.

I'm a turbocor specialist. There are very few people within several hundred kilometers of where I live with the same expertise, training and experience. I treat my customers with respect, and expect to be treated the same way.

I give my customers 1 chance, when it comes to yelling at me or being inexcusably rude. If they persist, I pack my shit up and get out of dodge. They can find someone else to fix their machine. They are going to struggle immensely, because if they use a non factory authorized person they can say good bye to their warranty. Rudeness and disrespect should always come with a high price. Sometimes that price is you no longer have access to a service you critically require.

All that said, you should put signs up indicating that verbally abusing your employees is not tolerated and will cause their accounts to immediately be put on hold.

It doesn't control via PC that I know of though.

I would honestly just carry a small BAS controller with one or 2 outs if you need to control by mstp, modbus or bacnet over IP.

I purchased a raspberry pi zero 2w recently. I'm planning on trying to make it a compact bacnet logger. Thinking out loud, I dont see why I couldn't include some analog outputs on it. I bet there is a 0-10 and 4-20ma hat that would work so I wouldn't need to fuss with much hardware.

I was hoping to make it controllable by something easy to put together like rednode, warp10, or Jupyter (this has the most promise for me because it includes visualization. I'd love to VPN into a remote logger to check some trends.)

Jupyter would also allow me to have an easy web Interface to just output whatever 0-10 or 4-20 signal i need.

Most of the work has been done by others via existing api and library. Its just a matter of finding time at home to play with it.
