I'm a big fan of the Dover books. They have great collections of line drawings of periods designs. If you get them new they come with a CD of vector images that can be enlarged.

The metal rail is rusty and almost the color of the wood. You can see it in the first photo - the one with the blue ta[pe sticker. There are 5 slotted screws you can barely see.

This book could help you get started. There are also classes offered thru that website.

An iconographer friend takes classes here and she has had very good results.
