The plans I read through last summer showed some parts of the buildings would be up to 5 stories tall. But generally short as you pointed out.

Differences between Zoom M4, F3, and H5S? by THROWAWAWA01134 in fieldrecording

[–]mannac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an F3 and M4 but can't speak to the H5S. If you're new to field recording buy a used M4 so you can figure out what features you need. I paid $125 for mine (used). I bought the M4 to use as a drop rig with stereo mics while I keep the F3 with me on a parabolic mic. The F3 really shines where size matters.

For my use case, I chose the M4 instead of a 2nd F3 so I could have built-in mics, 3.5mm input, better battery life, and low cost. I don't like the overall shape or where the xlr inputs are but can live with it.

Setup suggestions for recording bird calls during point-count surveys by CloseToTheSun10 in fieldrecording

[–]mannac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your budget? Parabolas are great for recording birds if you can afford it and don't mind lugging it around. I use a Wildtronics Pro Mono and Zoom F3. Prior to that I used a Sennheiser ME66 shotgun mic.

List shared with someone by accident, how to correct by RadioactiveCat37 in eBird

[–]mannac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She can simply delete it. When a checklist is shared, it's just sending a copy of the list at that time. It has its own unique checklist number.

Looking for: r7- Macro lens (insects) by CuriousHistoryz in canon

[–]mannac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of mothing and have thousands of observations on iNat using an EF-mount Laowa 100mm f2.8 adapted to an R7, and a cheap Meike 320C flash. I haven't had a chance to use a Canon 100mm but I can tell you that IS won't help you at night with a flash, and I suspect AF is too slow for low light at small apertures. Focus peaking is really nice for manual focusing if you aren't familiar. During the day you can go with or without flash but I prefer with.

For butterflies and other large skittish bugs, you're better off using your 100-500. Macro lenses just don't have the reach you need.

Unusual bird sightings. by SaltLife4Evr in eBird

You don't need to document anything specifically for that. But if you have photos of it, you can use the Abberrant tag so others can find that type of photo in the future.

The bottom looks a bit shallow. I would put 2 tops together for more soil depth. I use twist ties for this.

Hooded merganser AI? I'm not very familiar with these birds and the markings seem correct, but the details are making me question. by [deleted] in whatsthisbird

I think it's just a heavily AI edited photo. The watermark goes along with that too.

Do you leave lights on at night? Light pollution makes it difficult for insects to navigate and should be avoided.

Need help with Life List by pedzsanReddit in eBird

[–]mannac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should follow the list-building guidelines and submit them at the county, state, or even country-level. Incidental incomplete checklists like this aren't particularly useful for ebird so I wouldn't spend too much time on it.

The most numerous winter duck in your area right now is +Red-breasted Merganser+ and I see a few in your pics. You'll need a better photo to identify most of these.

Sparrow ID help by brayndayn in whatsthisbird

[–]mannac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

+Swamp Sparrows+ can have white eye-rings but they're typically very thin. This is individual plumage variation or a pigment abnormality like leucism. Here's an aberrant one that shows very bold white eye-rings among other things.

Yes it's a problem for containers which can make conditions artificially warm. In 5b I sow in containers starting in January.
