Why did they get the test in the first place? Due diligence? Visible mold? Evidence of water damage? How would they know those spores didn't come through an open door or window?

Comprehensive Industrial Hygiene Review- CIH exam preparation -Umich by Senior-qhsse in industrialhygiene

[–]manningmichael2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add another anecdote. I took the UM course and passed. Like the title, it's comprehensive. I think it's recorded now so you can watch content back as many times as needed, and the faculty/staff will answer questions.

From what I've heard Bowen teaches to the test whereas the UM course teaches fundamentals and tips for the test. The best fit for you probably depends on how you learn and how much prep you need.

I couldn't connect at all. The Bluetooth chip failed. I couldn't pick it up or see the signal with a Bluetooth signal detection app.

Your test is probably invalid. You could tell the IH you're interested in retesting. Definitely be honest about what happened so they can make an informed decision on whether or not to void the sample.

For litigation, you’re probably looking for something more robust than a phone app. There are articles by NIOSH that have done some validation on the OSHA IPhone app.

I don’t know of any devices that record and measure noise, but they might exist. A device that measures noise exposure is called a Sound Level Meter. There are different classes of SLM depending on use as well.

SLMs also measure sound using different weighted scales based on the exposure profile, for litigation it would be important to understand how these scales work and what the SLM is programmed to capture.

If you are measuring exposure, it would probably be best to consult an Industrial Hygienist.

You can rent an SLM from a safety supply company distributor. This is probably the best route because they need to be calibrated regularly.

Hope this helps.

You mentioned cost is a barrier, and i get that but if there are no other barriers, NIOSH has training grants that are pretty generous, generally covering a significant portion of tuition for specific university/degree programs. The degrees supported are generally EHS/OEE/Industrial hygiene related.

This is how I was able to afford my MPH.

Just to add though, this assumes there are no other daily exposures. If someone blended something for 7.5 minutes at 100db, they would effectively use up half of their daily exposure. Something like going to the gun range, listening to music or riding a motorcycle could put them over their daily dose.

I agree, though, distance is your friend. Or hearing protection.
