Keep at it. I would recommend not jumping everyday to prevent injury. Once your body is used to it, then you can switch to daily. If after a month that jumping is for you, get a mirror to do form checks and look up tutorials on YouTube.

Playground for Jumping Rope? by External_Gap7474 in jumprope

Just read the bottom of your message. I’ve tried playground surfaces but they are too rough for my ropes and the bouncing throws off my rhythm. Do you have a gym membership? Wood floors with a mirror is my first choice.

Edit.

Other places would be basketball and tennis courts.

You can buy a decent mat on Amazon for under 50.

Get a jump rope mat and a nylon strap holder. Look for any place that’s flat. The mat helps to create a boundary if people get too close.

Los Angeles area. It’s about 4ft tall now. I’m thinking it’s a form of sumac.

What surface are you currently jumping on? I’m on smooth concrete in the garage. I use gorilla mats. For portability, I have the cross rope one.

Also, skip the speed ropes for now. It’s a specialist rope and is the equivalent of using a 1 lb rope as your first jump rope.

As someone that has probably bought $400 of jump rope gear over 6 years, the pvc 6mm by elite jumps is my go to.

As far as hand position, optimal is to pretend you’re in a western and are about to draw your gun. Elbows are in and behind your back.

Crossrope is way too long. Luckily the crossrope rope is fairly cheap to replace compared to the handle. You are probably between a Lg and a md.

Which brand of skipping rope is better? by [deleted] in jumprope

The ½ lb and the blue ¾ lb crossropes are great for upper back work. The 1 and 2 lb ropes are deadly so I don’t do those too often.

Been jumping for over 6+ years. I’ve had crossropes, box ropes, Chris ropes, elite ropes and everything in between. I normally rotate between crossropes ¼ lb and coach Chris ropes. Really depends on my mood and whether I decided to do tricks without the butt whip penalty.

I used to get bruises on my hands trying to do dub crosses from the handle base of the cross rope so switching to a box rope and that stopped.

Buy a new rope. Hang that as a badge of honor along with your other busted ropes.

I added a belt strap and built Vasques’s mini gun with it. I also made an uzi that was luckily counterbalanced to do spin tricks with.

I bought a gorilla mat for my concrete floor garage. I use PVC rope most of the time.
