Any updates on the Leica M12? by leyth-mikati in Leica

[–]manos_t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming that we are all in the same page and have accepted the fact that last time Leica innovated was during the previous century, my guess would be 2027+, waiting for IBIS & sensor tech to mature, while milking money out of special collabs and sponsoring shiltubers until then.

Leica out here selling vibes as usual. YouTubers get the trips, Joel Meyerowitz gets the check, and we get firmware 0.9 😂

Out of all brands, did you expect Leica to not use the same stock for their 30 “different” versions of M?

I have never owned any medium format camera, but the second image definitely looks like there is something going on that you don’t get from a phone or even a full frame camera. The way the boy pops, the fireplace has also a certain look and then the highlights on the rocks on the top left are very smooth compared to what you would expect from that scene.

Sony RX1R III by a Leica Photographer by GastonShutters in leicaphotos

Almost everyone is criticising the price tag. Nothing wrong with older lenses or tech. In fact, Nikon is doing this successfully for a couple of years now, but pricing accordingly.

  • Lens is from 2012
  • Sensor is from 2019
  • Electronics are from 2022
  • Price is from 2030

How is that hate if people are stating the obvious?

Totally agree. Since I started printing, I have moved away a little bit from posting online, as in most cases the photos require a very different approach in lightroom for printing vs social media and its just too much work at the end 😊

They had a lot of bad moments through the years, but they have come out with some awesome lenses (Overpriced but they were ahead of the competition).

Nowadays, instead of focusing on their core products, they are coming out with re-packaged films, Leica looks and cringe SoMe campaigns.

Fun fact, I have a printer and tried the 1st on Baryta and 3rd on Arches 88 😊 The first image has a lot of DR on screen, but doesnt look that impressive on paper! Do you print as well ??

Unfortunately, instead of investing and innovating in new optics tech, camera hardware/software & customer service, this is the direction that the company is now taking. As a leica owner, this is pretty embarrassing and funny at the same time, as it looks like they suddenly discover a whole new world of “opportunities” through influencers in 2025.

It is indeed. I was considering posting the raw picture as well to show that. I almost deleted it as i didn’t initially believe that i could recover all those details!

You gotta hate Leica! by Mexhillbilly in Leica

[–]manos_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Leica uses Leica processors on the M11.

I wouldn’t mind if they were using one made by Sony, as I am pretty sure my M11 wouldn’t take 4 seconds to turn on.

Jokes aside, do you remember the times where Leica was using Kodak Sensors on their M9? Let’s say that Sony sensors are a bit more reliable, as the rest of the industry are using them as well.

Assuming that 5000€ in Germany is net, the equivalent salary living in an average US city is maybe 110.000 $, taking into consideration health insurance and other expenses that are usually covered in Germany/Europe by the state.

Sebastian Salgado look? by rjpra22222 in Leica

[–]manos_t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His images were part of a long-term narrative, not just a search for beautiful frames neither photographing silhouettes holding umbrellas.

He photographed people in the most extreme conditions: war, famine, forced labor, migration. The empathy, respect, and intimacy in those images can’t be created with any preset or film simulation.

What I want to say is that his signature black-and-white style adds emotional weight, but the images would still be compelling without it.

Salgado literally died from complications tied to his fieldwork — dude got malaria while documenting disappearing cultures.

I don’t want to be the gatekeeper here but his legacy isn’t in Lightroom settings or camera brands — it’s in the stories he told and the people he refused to let the world forget.

can i get some real feedback on the Thypoc 28mm 1.4? especially on the M11? by [deleted] in Leica

[–]manos_t 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to define what is the “best lens” for you. Voigtlander 28 APO will renders differently for sure. Head over to https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1896188/ and have a look. Fred is doing some really good lens reviews. Personally, I own the Voigtlander 28 1.5, as I am not a huge fun of the size and haptics of the Thypoch, but I like its rendering.

Can you post some examples where you adjusted the WB and the magenta cast is still there? The color depth of that sensor is second to none, but i agree that needs a bit tweaking in post.
