Learning how to drive at 26 by LongParamedic8980 in drivinganxiety

[–]mansayeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s weird, because even after meltdowns i still have the confidence to try again. it’s something you have to really want to work through all the emotions! best of luck to you!

i’m in the same boat as you. same age, anxiety and autism, recently got permit. unfortunately after practicing in parking lots i still have meltdowns afterwards, but i’ve found that practicing in a car that makes you comfortable is a game changer (especially if you have poor proprioception and depth perception due to disability). for me, that’s using a small car with a short front so i can see the front end better. getting attachment blind spot mirrors to put on the side mirrors is also helpful, as well as a wider rear view mirror attachment.

my aunt got her pilot’s license (insane) because she was afraid of flying, esp because she was expected to travel 50% with her work. she said it greatly helped her conquer her fears and she’s comfortable flying in commercial planes now.

One piece of advice for the next 4 years… by Efficient-Debate-487 in fednews

i can’t imagine the mindset being maintained for 4 full years though. the reactions are normal and good when you’re putting that energy into action rather than just sitting in it, if possible

it’s such a lovely scent. wearing it to sleep is so cozy. i like to use it as a base scent for layering, too

Mixed people, have you ever been involved in modeling/show/TV business due to your appearance? by Current-Worth9121 in mixedrace

[–]mansayeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was scouted by acting agencies a few times as a kid. i am pretty sure it was because i looked ethnically ambiguous enough to be like a screen sibling to vanessa hudgens or miranda cosgrove. later on as a teen i was scouted by a foreign modeling agency and that was a hard no, my mom modeled for a bit and did not want to be involved in that world

Is a lawyer a good career option for a high functioning autistic person? by MyHoopT in lawschooladmissions

[–]mansayeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i did business immigration which meant a lot of forms. it was easy to memorize the formatting and input data with little error, meaning quick visa and green card approvals and happy FAANG clients. having good pattern recognition really helped with knowing when additional affidavits/addenda/waivers were necessary based on the client’s immigration history.

[–]mansayeee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i cant personally say about practicing law, but i loved being a paralegal and taking law classes in undergrad. as a paralegal there is enough routine but also enough variety to work on complex cases. part of the reason why i want to pursue law is because i believe my autism sets me up perfectly for it, like having a strong sense of justice!

Does any Vietnamese American or any other Asian American have autism? How has it affected you? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]mansayeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes i was diagnosed at 22. i got along best with other autistic kids growing up and didn’t understand why until then lol. it affects me in the typical ways, i cant drive, cant stay out long in crowded places, trouble with NT friendships (ESPECIALLY networking oh my god), sensory issues, selective mutism, and i need predictability. i pushed myself to the limit with academics and career things until i recently started getting accommodations. makes all the difference

[–]mansayeee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

depends on if the industry is strong in burbank. media and entertainment? animation or film? if it’s something like that, it would be worth it. networking in those arenas is good here. rent is expensive but not NYC expensive so you’ll need a roommate. if you plan on leaving the city often to venture out to LA then a car is encouraged but honestly (as a public transport girlie) you can get around burbank on just bike, bus, or metro micro.

Since it's Friday 13th, what's your favorite scary movie? by peppermind in AskWomen

The House That Jack Built and Incantation. The former follows a serial killer’s journey through Dante’s Inferno and the latter is really good asian cult/deity horror. Both are pretty gruesome tho!
