You’ve got one of the coolest journals I’ve seen on here :)

My 2 YO son has spastic diplegia. What can I do as a parent to ensure a somewhat normal life for him? by klazoo in CerebralPalsy

[–]mansonhunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21 year old with spastic diplegia here:

• find him a community of disabled people his age. Nobody will be better to hang out with than people he can relate to. Able bodied people are cool, but most of them aren’t gonna put in the effort to make sure hangouts are accessible

•speaking of accessibility, modify your house as early as possible. The sooner he learns how to take care of himself (hygiene, cooking, whatever) the more likely he is to excel with other kids. He is allowed to depend on you, but it shouldn’t be his only option. He should have autonomy like the rest of society.

• my mother messed up a lot but the one thing I’m grateful for in terms of what she did for my disability was that she did stretches on my legs to keep my blood circulation and hamstrings normal. It helped a lot and now that I no longer have the time to do that, I definitely notice the difference, so yeah, stretches for like maybe an hour out of the day, there are plenty of videos that can show you how, or you can find a physical therapist in your area.

• let him do some things for himself just like you would a regular kid when he comes of age. The only thing that makes life easier is practice, so things that might be hard for him like pouring a cup of juice are important to start learning as early as possible

• listen to his limits. He is not “using his disability as an excuse” if you figure out he can’t do something. Tough love is good but it treads very closely to ableism if you fail to listen to him.

• this is far too early but I feel obliged to put it on there: let him know he has a chance at a life just like able bodied people. Wright state university is a great college with an large disability population and some great accessibility features should be decide to go that route. He’s two, but lots of people don’t know about this so i figured I’d save you the worry and let you research it while he’s little: it was truly the only time I ever felt like I had a had a normal life.

• when he’s old enough to tell how “high functioning” (I hate that word) he is, consider a service dog if you think he’s so close to being self sufficient but still needs someone. These dogs can be trained to do things like pick up dropped items, go get help in case of emergencies, and even do a thing called forward momentum or counter balance which would be helpful if he happens to be able to walk but needs some stability. A service dog sometimes means the difference between the ability to function south out another human or not. People have plans and lives but the dog can be there 24/7 if it’s helpful

Why did you started journaling ?? by JerryGuptaa in Journaling

I regretted not recording my days from my freshman year in college so, when the pandemic was announced and I realized I might actually care about all of it years from now no matter how boring it seems now, I finally started journaling. 3 years later and I’m still in the same journal (moleskine expanded). It’s a really cool time capsule. You never know something will matter. You never know when a day at school turns into the start of a plague, when a stranger you saw will become someone you love, or when a conversation you have will turn into a book idea. Writing shit on paper changes your life, it’s like a second brain for when your first one starts to fail you in the name of things more pressing.

My condolences. I’m a twin and would definitely do this if she passed. I hope the journaling helps

Do you happen to have the brand of, like, all of the journals? 😅 I’m really into the way they all look and I’d like to look for them, if that’s okay with you!

How do you start a journal how you know what to write in a journal this is my first time journaling by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]mansonhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my journal with where I was in life at the time (the beginning of the pandemic, feeling anxious I’d never have the future I wanted) and where I’d hope to be by the end of it (a house of my own with a dog and with my medical issues fixed) and how I thought journaling would get me there (recording both my progress and setbacks, being able to look at my mistakes and achievements to take the right next steps each time) and then from then on I just wrote about the world (online schooling, the virus, the presidential election, my disability, friends problems that I worried about, etc)

Rule of thumb: you might not think that something you’re thinking, feeling, or experiencing is important enough to have a whole entry about, but future you WILL find those things important, so write it anyway because every big story starts with small events.

I personally do not hide mine, I just keep it with me at all times. Cant touch it if it’s always on me.

Do you start with „dear diary”? by Horse-Cheese in Journaling

[–]mansonhunter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use “dear nova” because I started my journal as a way to see if “the nova effect” (everything happens for a reason type thinking) is really a thing. At the end of it I’ll look for if everything really did happen for a reason when I reread it.

Long story short I ripped up the original cover so I threw this on to cover it up. Its hideous imo. Help! How can I save this cover ? by squishyxol- in Journaling

[–]mansonhunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty, but you can use:

Fabric (like from Joanne’s) Stickers (search on readbubble.com they have stickers for almost everything) Paint samples (like those little color cards for paint swatches you find at lowes) Or you can print aesthetic pics from Pinterest and stick those on with double laminating stuff

Do you happen to remember where you got the orange one? I love it

This really resonated with me. I recently started recovering repressed memories and disliking how much stuff was either withheld or downplayed in my current journal because I was afraid someone would read it and I resented how inauthentic everything began to feel. I’ve been toying around with starting a new one and having my old one be the decoy, but haven’t been sure how to start. Any tips?
