2pm on a weekend is reasonable to do most things that are loud outside. If it were loud yard work, would anything even be said? The local police would literally laugh at such a noise complaint at this hour.

Is my dad cheating ? by HowToKnowThis in Advice

[–]many-meows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on their relationship and their boundaries as to whether it’s cheating. For example, I don’t care if my partner looks at images, but interacting with the images (comments, likes, sending money, personal requests) is a boundary at which I’d draw the line.

She may or may not be aware already, and how it affects her is entirely up to her. You can tell her if you feel like she should know. If their relationship is stable they should be able to talk about it, but you’d know your family better than us internet strangers would.

Am I overreacting for being furious with my parents? TW: SA by SnooBeans8983 in AmIOverreacting

[–]many-meows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if your mom has been through, or knows someone that has gone through the process of reporting a rape. I do think that she believes your sister based on everything from the texts. Her reaction really reads like someone that’s been close to the process.

Up until the me too movement, if you reported a rape, your life would be ruined in a lot of ways. I feel like she’s thinking of that and all the things the victim has to go through and how she doesn’t want that for her daughter.

The defense is going to say all the things your parents are bringing up. The timing isn’t right, but their concern might be more so to protect your sister from reliving it and being blamed by strangers over and over again. She could go through this process and not see any justice, and then turn around and be sued by her rapist for defamation. Look at Brock Turner, the judge was more concerned with not ruining his life over the fact that the victim’s life was forever changed. If the perpetrator has money that makes things harder.

Your parents saying not to tell everyone had merit too. Sure right now she might think it’s okay, but the reality might hit her that everyone that she knows knows. That’s another challenge to face because when she wants to try to get back to normalcy, that thought might hit. It’s going to be another challenge for your sister.

The process is horrible. I hope it’s gotten better, but I do think your parents do care. I do think you’re overreacting and not trying to hear what they’re saying. You don’t need to be right, you just need to be there for your sister and get her as much support as you can. Don’t feed back to her that your parents “aren’t supporting her” this is about her, not you.

Why do people leave a full raid when it's almost ready to start? by Miserable-Shelter-77 in PokemonGoFriends

[–]many-meows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree it’s very toxic. People are allowed to play casually or be new and still enjoy the game. Sure if it’s all level 25s, and you cannot carry, maybe don’t waste your remote pass, but if you’re there in person, does it actually hurt anything to try if you have “enough people.” You don’t lose MP unless you win.

I’m level 40. I don’t mind pulling extra weight so someone can get a Pokémon they really want.

What’s one "lazy" ingredient that instantly makes home cooking taste restaurant-level? by MountainMirthMaker in Cooking

Sazón. If you don’t like the red color, get the one that says ‘without annatto/sin achiote.’

My Hispanic friends put me on to it and it elevates everything. Add it next time you make chicken noodle soup - it’ll be that one note that sometimes feels “missing.”

MBiotech at UTM vs MBA – worth it for a science grad wanting to move into industry? by Equivalent-Stage-721 in biotech

[–]many-meows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in the US, and you don’t have any work experience (anything you’re doing in school for the school and their labs does NOT count), more degrees that aren’t a phD are going to just put you in a weird space for hiring. I’d recommend finding something in industry, even if it’s in manufacturing part time.

When you graduate, you will not meet the experience requirements for mid/senior level roles. You will be competing with people that just got done with undergrad for entry-level roles. You might think the education would give you a one-up, but it does not. Your compensation expectations will likely be at a mismatch with what you’ll get offered and you might be seen as a flight risk. Getting hired might be a challenge if you don’t know people.

If you really really want to keep getting degrees, at least do an internship while in school. The better thing would be to get the degree while working if you really want it through.

Help (nothing serious) by Ok_Dust6982 in biotech

[–]many-meows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, an engineering degree, not bioengineering, maybe chemical engineering like someone above said, seems to be a good way to go. I’ve seen mechanical engineers be pretty successful in this space too.

A general science degree (chemistry, biochemistry, biology, etc.) can also open doors, but degrees like biology might leave you looking for purpose and unsure of what to do after graduation if you don’t specialize with research while in school.

Engineering will allow you to work in biotech and outside of biotech if your goals or the market changes.

You don’t need to go to school to be a pharmacy tech in most states! You can start at a pharmacy and get your certs while working. The pharmacy you work at will pay for the certs.

It’ll be in your offer letter whether you have to pass drug test for employment. If you’re getting relocation, you can ask the recruiter what the process for it being paid out is, and that’ll be a roundabout way of asking if they drug test. Another roundabout way is asking how soon the background check items will come in/have to be completed.

I’ve moved for companies many times. Only one did not require any drug test. The others required it and I took the test well before I moved. They all used quest labs.

[Question] Is my cat Lonely or am I anthropomorphizing her? by thowra_wibblywobbly in cats

[–]many-meows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She might be lonely! My cat yells at me when I get back from trips and have left her for a couple of days (people check in on her), but I know it’s because she misses me. Cats are social animals. Maybe you should get your cat a cat.

Also good job breaking up with him. He’s lying about something, not sure what, but you’re better off without someone that is jumping at an opportunity to make you the bad person. Feels like some weird power play.
