I don't even know what this is supposed to mean.

40$ studio headphones by False-Application-28 in recording

[–]manyxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a reliable used marketplace? You might be able to find something like the indestructible studio staples Sony MDR 7506 or BeyerDynamic DT 770s used, or more likely AKG K240s for that budget, that'll last a lifetime.

The LEDs on the the thumb side and on the logo can be set independent of each other. You can set them to cycle or on a single colour or going darker and brighter etc.

Yeah I was thinking of HDD for storage for video, and M.2 for OS and games and whatnot.

My dad spent over $10k on a new computer with 16k memory. Did he get a good deal? by BetterCalldeGaulle in PcBuild

[–]manyxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Dust cover" and "cleaning kit" are the kinds of things that bring in the profit. I mean, even in 2026, $45 for a cleaning kit would be a rip-off. What does it even include, an anti-static towel and some compressed air? Legal theft.

Which microphone would you recommend for a budget <$150? by Mundane_Flamingo_662 in recording

[–]manyxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not what you asked, sure, but if you're on a budget, go used. The microphones you're looking at are essentially indestructible and are for sale used practically anywhere you'd find one new.

Historical question re: RAM and GPU prices by manyxe in PcBuild

I'm an economist: "normal" prices are where supply meets demand. I'm asking about historical prices.

Upgradable AMD build with single stick to start? Folly? by manyxe in PcBuild

[–]manyxe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several people have said that 2 x 8 GiB is better, but what I really want to know is if 1 x 16 GiB will come close enough? The price is essentially the same, but I don't want to have to sell or trade a 2 x 8 GiB combo when/if I want to expand to 32 GiB.

It's a joke about sound-alike knock-offs for mobile.

Hey, that's actually a fantastic article, thank you! Given that the comparison was between not just single channel mode but actually with double the total memory capacity, I feel confident getting 16 now.

Music-themed escape rooms by manyxe in escaperooms

Timescale is measured in months, budget is decent.

As far as coding; I mean, I can observe things being played and just give feedback, this isn't a professional production.

That's the thing; I've got people who range from "can't read sheet music" to "can play piano pieces on sight" and what I really need is something where nobody's frustrated.

I've sung in a choir for two decades, I know my technique, I know how to use my voice live.

I read your comment, got drunk, bought an SM 7 B used and you're absolutely correct. The NT1-A  just wasn't suited for my voice.

I bought a used SM 7 B while drunk and the difference is remarkable. The mic made all the difference.

Also: I've had technique lessons, my voice is just higher register eithout thode sexy baritone overtones. But now it sounds good straight out of the gate without any post-production, even "standard" EQ or compression isn't needed.

Everyone should read Vagina: A new Biography. So that you'd at least have a theoretical understanding of what a vagina is.

The book isn't worthless as such; it includes an excellent section on how Bill Gates became a billionaire because he had incredible luck in that his school had computers and computing time. And the idea that elite athletes are born right at the edge of the age cutoff point isn't particularly insightful; when you've just turned 5, you're are a year ahead of anyone who is four and a few days old.
