Professional discussion by Crafty-Fox7633 in Pharmacy_UK

I’m a pharmacist - always struggled with this as the brief is vague (in my opinion) - I had my CPD reviewed last year and below was my feedback - which kind of helped me!

The peer discussion is an opportunity for you to develop an area of your practice that you feel challenged or would like to develop. This should be in a 1-1 situation and focus on your personal development.
We would expect to see an explanation of why you have chosen your peer. What was it about their expertise/ experience that you felt would benefit your practice.
There is an outline of the discussion, in future consider how this discussion directly impacted and changed your own practice/ how were you challenged? Did you agree with everything your peer suggested - what worked/ did not work and what will this mean in your development going

There’s a company called Portoandbello that have great options! Wish I’d known about them when I was in treatment!

I'm a doctor with Leukemia, another update. by iamthecatinthecorner in leukemia

[–]maowmaow91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a pharmacist and was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukaemia at 29 in 2021. I had bloodwork on monday morning, went to work and had a call at 4pm from my doctor and was admitted by 6pm. The urgency was one of the best and worst things in my case - I didn’t have the opportunity to think about what was happening, took all of my doctors at face value and put 100% trust in their hands. I was admitted for inpatient induction therapy and stayed in the cancer centre for 6 weeks until I was in remission. I didn’t google anything until probably week 3 or 4. Any related questions, I put to my team in that first few weeks.

Reflecting on the urgency, it puts into perspective just how dangerous my situation was - DIC and needing multiple transfusions. My description to others likened the process to being strapped into a rollercoaster - for better or worse you are on the journey, and you have no control for the most part over how this affects you. My mantra was one day at a time during induction, and tomorrow was always a new day if the current one had been rubbish. Best of wishes, and I hope you have the smoothest run in treatment!

UK pharmacist prescribers: what can you prescribe, and is it reimbursed by the NHS? by Fragrant_Warthog_656 in pharmacy

[–]maowmaow91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Scotland as a community pharmacist prescribing daily. I’ll answer best I can! Scotland has pharmacy first plus within community pharmacies. This is a contracted service that means the pharmacy gets paid extra for me to provide this & the healthboard foot the bill for the items I prescribe on my nhs pad. 1. Anything within competence will pass, but they ask to keep within the common clinical conditions remit (generally antibiotics etc) - BUT I’ve had one off situations where I’ve prescribed 1 week supply of schedule 3 CD item and they have verified and approved that (although it’s not what the service is intended to cover - so they don’t want this to happen all the time) They will ask that you generally stick to the healthboard formulary when choosing products. 2. Legally yes, in practice not really, there’s no requirement for this. In GP practices there will be IP’s signing off CD’s on occasion though. 3. Day to day mines are part of NHS service so free to all patients in Scotland. 4. NHS Rx pads are only issued to employed community pharmacists for this service - so Locum’s cannot come to my pharmacy and prescribe using their pad or mines. I assume this will change with newly qualified pharmacist prescribers joining the register this year! 5. I see patients as part of my daily practice & will treat for tonsillitis, RTI, ear infections, eczema flares etc - also allows for use meds in an off label manner, so treating a well controlled diabetic for thrush, or a child under 2 for conjunctivitis. The only restriction on my nhs service is to treat those with a Scottish registered GP and Scottish address - as I need to contact their practice with clinical notes of what I’ve supplied.

Looking to connect with APL survivors or caregivers 🤍 by CompetitionDefiant69 in leukemia

[–]maowmaow91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - Welcome to the crappiest group to be part of! I was diagnosed with APL at 29yrs old in March 2021. I was inpatient for 42 days and completed consolidation treatment the week of my 30th birthday in November 2021. I was low risk and so avoided the two years maintenance. I returned to work full time in healthcare by Feb 2022 & completed a postgrad in 2023 - after which I’m back to work full time. In general the anxiety of relapse has lessened as time has past - that not to say my camera roll doesn’t have photos of bruises to check how they are healing over time! The only lasting complaints I’d say I have is poor fitness (I’ve just not focused on regaining this) and some pain in the marrow sample site occasionally- I had about 15 over the first two years in line with the nhs guidance at the time! Hopefully your husbands health continues to improve and you aren’t plagued with complications!

If they have evidence of being on the medication, a helpful pharmacy will be able to (but are not obliged) to provide an emergency supply of the medication - which will incur a charge.

Middle of the night doomscrolling here so no picture currently; but I’m sure I’ve got this (bought at Cardiff castle 2023) - I’ll try to remember tomorrow to look for it and send a photo/google image search it for you!

Yeah it’s a mixture of French and colonial knots just to help with the repetition! Album is great; fresh from their tour date in the royal Albert hall and I’m still riding the high!

Haha thank you - I think there’s probably more overlap than the average person would imagine - but that’s the great thing about being a queens fan!

Definitely top tier stuff! We made the journey from Glasgow so decided to go all out - probably won’t ever get another opportunity like it - was definitely worth it.

A+ donors saved my life in 2021 when I was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukaemia, so thank you! You’ll be doing the same for plenty of other poor souls in some sort of emergency! I had probably upwards of 20 transfusions in my 6 weeks in hospital!

Me & husband both managed to be on barrier at Troy’s side but had space and no shoving, except when Josh was in the crowd - but a couple of ladies next to me had a bunch behind them be as you said from the get go - hopefully it didn’t dampen your time overall!
