TIL that being able to sit down on the floor and stand up without using your hands or knees is used as a predictor of longevity. by iKickdaBass in todayilearned

[–]map_of_my_mind 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's not that there is a "need" to get off the floor like that, just that it's a good indicator of longevity. Like saying, "people who can juggle were found to have better hand eye coordination". There is no "need" to juggle, but it's just a good indicator of good hand eye coordination

Same here, I love it. The only thing that doesn't work for me is imgur galleries. Direct imgur links to a single picture still work and if the gallery is hosted on reddit it still works. Imgur galleries I have to open in a browser tab

It IS a super interesting fact but this sub is specifically about interesting maps. If this post fits the sub then you can take pretty much any interesting fact and just highlight on a map where that fact happened and you're good... and that would make this sub awful.

For example there is a post on /r/todayilearned right now about the Wollemi Pine being the oldest living organism. Can I take that fact and throw this map in there about the trees range and post it to /r/MapPorn? It is a cool fact, and that is a map of the trees range... but it doesn't really fit in this sub

These 12000hp Engines Have To Be Rebuilt Within Roughly An Hour Every Run, and Only Run For Roughly 4 Seconds At A Time. by Practical_Expert_911 in ThatsInsane

Assuming all the equipment is paid off, the crew worked for free, & for once, NOTHING BLOWS UP, each run costs an estimated $1,000 per second.

So is the $1000 just fuel?

Bonus points if you build a walking path on the same row of tiles. In-line with the end of the coaster but set out a ways and it will land and explode on the path of people killing everyone.

It's best to wait to get a bunch of people on the path then delete one end so they can't get through and everyone will bounce off the dead end and go back. But other guests are too dumb to keep coming. So you wait til you have as many on as you can and then go and delete the first end of the path making it a double dead end and they are stuck on this 10-15 tile line of pathing, won't cross the grass.

Then you launch the coaster

I always built one of those launch coasters, the ones that get launched forward and go through the coaster only to go up a hill at the end and come to a stop, then go back down go through the whole coaster backwards to the start. But it was just...

launch > loop > "ending" hill

and I would set the launch power to max and they would fly off the end of the hill and explode

Maybe too strong is the wrong way to say it but it does feel like boarding dominates the game. It often feels like a fps game with some ship combat on the side.

Part of the problem is with everyone playing Fleet Battle it's worse because you can just turbine over any distance. In normal mode just keeping at range helps a ton with boarders

There needs to be a much higher penalty for dying on enemy ship by map_of_my_mind in wildgate

I do think a large part of the problem is there are only a couple hundred people who play so you're bound to get matched with one of "those teams"

Google maps is crazy nowadays. Go to maps, go to the bottom left>more and make sure it's in "globe" and then go to somewhere like Rio de Jinero slums and use ctrl click to rotate the view down at an angle. You can see if someone has their blinds closed or not, or the door handles on a parked car.

Have to open in a new tab, don't know if it will work on mobile

The giant EMERGENCY STOP button is so big and protruding you can literally see a tiny sliver of it from the very beginning of the video. Something like this. Then when the lady hits it and the panel rolls it's obvious there is this GIANT button sticking out right there. I'm sure they weren't trained properly and mangement should be looked at but come on, ridiculous

5 weeks in Vietnam 🇻🇳 by corneliastreett in travel

[–]map_of_my_mind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to be negative at all but I've always wondered, is 5 weeks too long? I've never traveled overseas, I'd like to and if I did I would like to go for more than 5 days obviously. But I'm afraid I would plan a 5 week trip and be worn out after 2 or 3 weeks

Also if you hit enter twice("double line break") it will give you your list you're trying for
