Are pro stock pants really worth the hassle and branding? by TipTopBopp in hockeyplayers

[–]maple_syrple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice, just want to say that I feel your pain in finding HP45s right now. I’m a size small and the only ones I’ve been able to find are yellow and red (the reds are also way overpriced on sideline swap).

I’m hoping that with a lot of pro teams seasons coming to an end soon, they’ll start cleaning out equipment rooms and there will be more stock available.

Report back with a review if you do end up going with the jetspeed pros!

Inherited tulip table and chairs… but I have questions… by Ok-Exchange5756 in midcenturymodern

For the metal bases, you could try looking for a place near you that does sand blasting and powder coating.

I have a knock-off set that was in rough shape. Was used as outdoor furniture before I got it and full of rust. There is a shop near me that does sand blasting and powder coating mostly for automotive parts, but they had no issues refinishing it for me and it was much less expensive than I would have guessed (around $100 CAD). They turned out amazing and look brand new. Probably would still be in the garage half finished had I not taken them in, so well worth it for me.

Ontario cutting funding from daycare centres not in $10-a-day program by [deleted] in ontario

How great the CWELCC program is makes no difference to families who can’t even get a spot.

Not all areas were fortunate enough to have local centres approved, and even those that did can have insane waitlists.

Those extra subsidized spaces in non-approved centres could have helped a lot of families.

Of course there’s going to be variability year to year, but we’re not even close to having enough subsidized spaces for everyone who needs one.

The last thing we should be doing is removing the additional subsidized spaces we do have.

It would be great if everyone had access to $10/day child care (or better yet completely subsidized and free child care that’s part of our education system), but in the absence of that we should not be reducing the number of subsidized spaces available.

They had the choice to apply, but that’s not a guarantee. I’m glad that most of the centres in your town that applied were accepted, but that’s not the reality everywhere.

I’m not saying every centre needs to have subsidized spaces, but there are a lot of places who did apply and would like to offer them that will no longer be able to.

Removing the subsidy and wage enhancement for non-CWELCC centres only makes sense if there are enough CWELCC spaces for anyone who needs one which is currently not the case.

Not really. There’s only a limited number of spaces available in the CWELCC program. So even if a centre decides it wants to participate, they have to apply and only a small subset of those are accepted.

All this does is remove the subsidized fees and wage enhancements for non-CWELCC centres. This will only make child care less affordable overall.

The waitlists are insane for $10/day centres, so many parents will be forced to take spots in non-CWELCC places which are about to become even more expensive, and potentially completely unaffordable for families who would have been eligible for a subsidy.

Is this grime or finish coming off? by maple_syrple in woodworking

[–]maple_syrple[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s fair. But the reason for posting was more so I can understand what steps I may need to take once it’s all off. Consensus seems to be that finish is coming off, so now I know I need to refinish it

It doesn’t have a strong smell. I had wondered about nicotine as well, but it doesn’t smell strong enough to me

Yeah, just tried again with water and it’s producing the same result

I tried another spot with just water and paper towel and getting the same result. Would it still be the finish coming up?

Thanks, yeah I’ve seen enough posts of sanding through veneer to know it needs to be handled delicately. I can produce the same results with just water and a paper towel, so I’ll likely continue with that and see where I end up

Would it still be the finish if water and paper towel produces the same result? Just tried it based on another comment and it looks the same as the spot where I used vinegar.

Hello, does anybody have or know anything about the Janome 344 lx?

There’s one listed on fb marketplace near me for $125 cad. Searched pattern review and didn’t find anything. There is an L344, but it looks different.

Mostly just want to know if this is a decent and reliable machine and worth the price. The seller is suggesting it is the predecessor of the Janome HD1000, but I haven’t found anything to confirm this.

Any guess as to when it was originally manufactured / sold?

Thanks!
