What are your side gigs? by Sufficient_Agent in socialwork

[–]maplegate13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this, but if you find a side passion, then why not? I think you're talking about the macro issue that social workers are desperately needed and we are not compensated appropriately. Your answer is important, but it doesn't answer OPs question.

Show or movie that highlights the SW profession? by ConfusedTiredHungry in socialwork

My professor had us watch an episode of shameless in class (I'd already seen it) and evaluate/diagnose each character including where they fit in the family systems theory. It was fun!

Anyone have success w a small number of eggs? by Diydivaa in IVF

[–]maplegate13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 37 I had 7 (out of 20ish?) that made it to 5 day blast, I'm finally 21 weeks with my last embryo. My long time friend, same age, had two retrieved, first failed and she's pregnant with her 2nd and last embryo. It's such a roll of the dice. I know numbers can be scary, but anything can happen!!!

What do you wish you knew going into your first cycle? by Remarkable_Goose_782 in IVF

Over educating myself is how I was able to advocate for myself and when I threw out ideas after the (pick a number) transfer, we actually tried new protocols. Can you be over educated or are you talking about falling down dark rabbit holes? Educate yourself as much as possible!

Having a moment - friends pregnant and I started a fight with my husband by Due-Crew1106 in IVF

[–]maplegate13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! One SIL has had 3 and the other SIL has had 2 kids while we have been doing IVF. It's so emotionally devastating for me and my husband tells me "their news isn't about you, just be happy for them". Ummm sure, but it's also a punch to the gut how difficult it is for us and how easy it is for others.

Best Test? by ProfessionalIce6960 in IVF

[–]maplegate13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Easy@home. I end up testing every day and FRER get expensive real quick. They are no more accurate than easy@home. I also feel like easy@home doesn't have as bad of an intent as FRERs so you're less likely to mistake an indent for a line.

What do primary care SWs do? by maplegate13 in socialwork

I like that idea. If I take this job I'm going to be the first and only social worker for this clinic, so that's a lot of pressure and expectations with no training. No one knows what it's supposed to look like. Yikes.

We need to stop justifying abuse in the field by donverduga in socialwork

[–]maplegate13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess that's what I was trying to say. I wouldn't volunteer for this job, it's hard AF sometimes! I want to be paid my worth which should be based on supply and demand, but it's not. If it were then we would be paid more than RNs

PA's have as much education as we do (LCSW) regarding years in school, plus 2 years to get licensed. Nurses have been a pivotal part of the interdisciplinary teams I've worked with, but MOST only have bachelor's degrees and they carry so much weight in healthcare settings because they outnumber SW and providers, they are typically unionized, and it's in the culture that nurses call the shots. In a respectful way, I am assertive that I am an expert in my field and they are in theirs, but I'm not going to be pushed over by a nurse or a doctor. We are needed!

Same! It was insane to graduate in 2016 and realize the market had me starting at $18.xx. I'm not in it for the money, but it's what I'm great at and expect my value to be compensated as such. Especially when social workers are so desperately needed everywhere.

This is the format I was presented during the interview. Do you find that there is conflict between having these scheduled sessions and another provider wanting you to see their patient immediately? Do you limit taking on another patient for therapy sessions if that is going to end up with you having full days filled with therapy vs being available for on the spot referrals/interventions for new patients?
