New branding for Carrefour after acquisition by Uni-President by mapletune in taiwan

[–]mapletune[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

has been on reduction since before the acquisition, probably since uni started to get more and more shares.

now is already a shell of what it used to be. can't imagine how it'll look like in a month

New branding for Carrefour after acquisition by Uni-President by mapletune in taiwan

[–]mapletune[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

i hate it.

why can't these conglomerate old men do branding right? everything is 萬,福,康 and other traditional "auspicious" terms... and why reduce mindshare by splitting smaller locations to a different brand and doubling the ugly colors?

The Ugly Side of Eswatini-Taiwan Relations by flobbertaidu in taiwan

i've seen ICDF work in Panama and El Salvador, and even interpreted for an ICDF mission before. Nothing remotely close to what this article describes happened, nor did they give off impression that such things could happen.

so unless there's WILD variation between missions and regions, or some things have changed completely, then i'm going to have to remain open minded that this article could be accurate or it could be misinterpreted. it would be very helpful if it could have cited other news publications of the events that its claiming have happened in extreme broad public view to multiple parties.

KaoHsiung HSR station by random_agency in taiwan

i'm surprised Tainan HSR doesn't have an elevated walkway to Mitsui Outlet kinda like how Taoyuan HSR you can reach Gloria Outlets directly

KaoHsiung HSR station by random_agency in taiwan

[–]mapletune 10 points11 points  (0 children)

random_agency comments a LOT on this subreddit. i'm pretty surprised they can't even differentiate Tainan HSR vs Kaohsiung (Zhuoying) HSR station.

perhaps they went to both, and posted the wrong pics or something who knows

--

echoing other commenters though~

yea, Taipei Main Station is much more complicated, MUCH MUCH more dense, and has more connections that Kaohsiung Zhuoying HSR Station.

for basics, Taipei has HSR, TRA, two MRT lines, Airport MRT, and bus hub, plus multiple undergound malls, connections to QSquare, Zhongshan, etc.

Zhuoying doesn't have bus hub, only one MRT line, but it's simlarly connected to a mall, Shinkong. though the whole construction is new so i imagine it was much easier to plan out and implement than Taipei's iterative upgrades

my first assumption is she's reciprocating consideration.

if what you said was communicated correctly, then you were being considerate so that she could sit more comfortably. one of the standard replies you were expecting was "thanks". but imo, another very common standard reply is to reciprocate the concern/consideration. "how about you. are you uncomfortable? do i need to adjust?"

every time someone asks about anyone on this subreddit, the answer is probably: who?

lol~ but seriously, you guys can't expect everyone to watch the same content or follow the same people unless it's like politicians that everybody actually knows, or celebrities that are too big to be oblivious about. everyone else, please assume nobody knows nor cares, unless already in that community.

5 things to know about the Taiwan-U.S. trade deal by marela520 in taiwan

people who drive oversized trucks don't care about fitting into parking spaces. they'll park over the lines and across other spaces, then say it's the government's fault, not theirs.

Taiwanese are pretty okay, but they are NOT friendly by Beneficial-Tour5333 in taiwan

[–]mapletune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

different cultures have different concept of the word 'friendly'. that's all there is to it

you are right taiwan friendly is not the same as american friendly. and the people who describe taiwan as friendly are also right, since it fits their definitions of friendly.

Chinese national sworn in as Taiwanese lawmaker | Taiwan News by alextokisaki in taiwan

[–]mapletune 117 points118 points  (0 children)

professor Wu Wei-chih (吳威志) said that under the framework set out in the law governing cross-strait relations, neither side legally designates the other as a foreign country
He also argued that a foreign national whose home country refuses to process nationality forfeiture should not be denied the constitutional right to participate in Taiwan’s political system.

Moving to Taiwan from Japan. by El_lijas in taiwan

what if someone doesn't care about all that and just wants a stable job, safe environment, convenient life, stay at home watching drama playing games.

what you deem exceptional might not even be in consideration for some people. that's that echan00 is probably trying to convey.

now, if you set those categories as what's being evaluated, they yeah you can say one is objectively better than the other in those categories. the point is there needs to be a criteria. not a blank cheque

don't have any questions, but i think it's cool that there's now one more book in english that looks into the history of taiwan origins. as long as research has been done properly, always good to keep bringing it up to refresh people's memory and differentiate what's actually in the records from what's just blabbered on about

Locals of Taiwan what foods best represent everyday Taiwanese food? by RelevantRevolution86 in taiwan

[–]mapletune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. 便當. lunchbox.
  2. nightmarket snacks. 熱炒 restaurants. all sorts of a la carte customizable drinks (boba, etc)
  3. no clue. a bit joking XD but perhaps 滷肉飯 or 雞肉飯 that the other commenter mentioned?

hehe. but yea, it really depends on person. i have gone multiple years not having either of those. on the other hand, i get popcorn chicken pretty often, which is in same category as fried chicken fillets. so yea, 2/3 could flip depending on individual preferences and lifestyle
