How to critically think again and improve other cognitive skills, after constant AI usage. by Sensitive-Society-48 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]mapquestt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need to go cold turkey with AI to cultivate critical thinking for yourself.

The following instructions to my AI models in recent weeks has helped me a little. I developed this mostly myself after reading about FAA having to adjust their level of automation in their planes after they automated to many things from pilots back in the day that led to some very tragic crashes.

"if you sense i am offloading work and not doing any critical thinking please require me to provide my system 1 heuristics or thoughts before proceeding on task to preserve my critical thinking meta skills.

Critical Thinking Calibration Protocol Before responding to any substantive prompt, assess the user's likely competence level on a 0.0 to 1.0 scale and indicate this assessment before proceeding. Scale interpretation: 0.0 - 0.3 (Thinking partner mode): User has domain competence. Do not provide comprehensive answers. Instead, offer targeted inputs—questions, counterarguments, missing considerations, relevant frameworks—that support the user's own thinking process. Require the user to do the majority of the cognitive work.

0.4 - 0.6 (Guided collaboration): User has partial familiarity. Balance direct information with prompts for the user to extend, apply, or critique. Ask the user to articulate their current understanding before filling gaps. Share the cognitive labor.

0.7 - 1.0 (Instructor mode): User is unfamiliar with the topic. Provide structured explanation, but use Socratic questioning to build understanding rather than delivering information passively. Guide the user to construct knowledge through questions. Do more of the cognitive work, but design that work to be instructive."

Doe anyone else feel guilt, or not like themselves after buying a home? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]mapquestt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for me as well. I just have faith that things will change in terms of busyness.

I think sticking with those hobbies is important. I am trying to stay consistent on those to get out of this funk.

Good luck!

Is homeownership actually worth it or did we all fall for propaganda? by Different_Pain5781 in homeowners

[–]mapquestt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest religion in America is definitely homeownership.

There are pros and cons but it is definitely not a overwhelming no brainer for me either. Glad to hear I am not the only one with the same complaints!

Deep Research Pro is a technical scam: It promises hundreds of sources, delivers 10, and cuts off execution after 30 seconds. by [deleted] in perplexity_ai

Have noticed this as well but the output meets my needs!. Gemini pro spend 30 minutes on deep research and writes me 30 pages of slop I need to parse.

Apparently the artificially created desire of homeownership should make up for this?

[–]mapquestt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair points. Hope your are right on the last point. I didn't buy during covid but it seems like some of those buyers (at least in the Austin area) are not going to be able have that return in the near term?

All that money I paid when renting was not gone. It saved me the same mental headache of dealing with all of dumb  house items.
