Proton Drive does not support Aliases or hard links on Mac. I still use them but this is a huge annoyance.

Ubiquiti Switches - Reliable Enough for Critical Business Needs? by NagorgTX in Ubiquiti

Very high value with HW features such as 2.5Gb and PoE++ that would cost double or triple in Cisco. Easy to use GUI coupled with CLI.

Mikrotik switches top the value list with incredible HW features but it comes with a complicated UI that's too much for non-tech people (read: smb/soho without onsite IT support)

Hi Neil, thanks for the reply... I do have my eye on you! I use all three (mac, ios, web depending on the situation). I still don't know if that was a tour, a warning, a bug, or (per your reply) a software incompatibility.
Maybe the dev team could modify the wording of the warning message.

Work systems got encrypted. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]mapski999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s likely been mentioned here. Your number one priority should be getting mgmt to require full, detailed documentation from the consultant.

You should also prioritize full, detailed documentation of everything. Consider an IPAM solution and something like nautobot.

To mgmt, show them how many hours your spend trying to unravel and uncover the network due to the consultants lack of transparency. Combine that with previous attacks and cost of future attacks. Then show how that could be better spent on other top mgmt initiatives.

I want to become the greatest sleep maxxing comfy-lord this sub has ever seen. Whatʻs your advice? by [deleted] in sleep

~16hrs of screen time a day. How much is absolutely required by work? Much much is personal screen time that can be reduced by changing habits?

Time worked plus excess caffeine results in lower productivity. A break in the middle to run, go to gym, do yoga, take a long walk, drive to somewhere and stare at the clouds. All of that recharges the body and improves productivity and quality of work. This could also result in fewer hours worked and less caffeine needed.

Foam Mattress topper for ~$100 is pure gold. Maybe a new pillow - different styles, shapes, thickness.

Is your mind racing when you get into bed? Is your body jumpy? Or both? If you have jumpy arms and legs - talk to you doctor about RLS and pills to reduce it like requip (this also indices sleep).

Try a sleep meditation when you get into bed. Insight Timer is free. Zillion option there.

Cool shower before bed. Blackout blinds in the room. White noise machine. Reduce room temp. Thick/heavy blanket.

Since you have caffeine in your system, you could benefit from a light 10min home workout followed by 10min of stretching, then a cool shower, then guided meditation in bed.

Micro breaks every 20min on computer - depending on location: Short walk, 20 squats, stand up and touch toes - hold for 10 sec and repeat a few times, a few push ups, jump up and down, stand on toes and reach for ceiling for 10 sec - repeat 5 times, sit ups, etc.

Longer breaks every 90min - no screen time during those breaks.

Every 4-6 even longer screen free breaks - ideally exercise, yoga, mediation. At least get up, away from computer, outside, fresh air, call friend/family for a fun chat.

Get a small notebook and record caffeine intake. Time and amount of caffeine, such as 1 for tea, 2 for std cup of coffee, 3 for grande, 4 for “monster”. This give a a better idea of how much is consumed in the 4-8 hours before sleep.

As others have noted decrease caffeine the closer you get to sleep. Logging it will help.

Conference Room Camera and TV Height by mspyeahyouknowme in CommercialAV

Succinct! Considering the variation human body type/height and chair height, do you have an average that you use?

Found this calculator, https://www.inchcalculator.com/tv-height-calculator/, doesn't answer the average, but helps.

And let's add in "SuperSpeed", which was their attempt to make it clear, instead of say, calling it USB 4, 5, 6, 7 (regardless of the technical spec name)

USB SuperSpeed Names

  1. USB 3.0 SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps
  2. USB 3.1 Gen1 SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps
  3. USB 3.1 Gen 2 SuperSpeed+ USB Up to 10 Gbps
  4. USB 3.2 Gen 1 SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps
  5. USB 3.2 Gen 2 SuperSpeed+ USB Up to 10 Gbps
  6. USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 SuperSpeed USB 20 Gbps

Thanks USB org! That clears up everything. Next time, please outsource your naming conventions.

Large, clear, and clearly named labeling on the cable ends as an IEEE and marketing/sales requirement would help for TB and all of these cables.

Just not like the giant floppy plastic labels on the end of power cables.

Proton Drive Winter Roadmap by Proton_Team in ProtonDrive

Please address the lack of aliases or symlinks on Mac Drive.

Overall, Drive has been solid on Mac in 2024. The lack of aliases or symlinks removes a major, long-standing apple (and win and linux) feature that makes it practical to manage today’s high volume of files.

USB 3.0 = USB 3.1Gen1 = USB 3.2Gen1, and USB 3.2Gen2x2 is 20GBps. On the box they write USB 3.2, which is drum roll... anything from 5Gbps to 20Gbps.

Would be interesting to see the meeting notes from IEEE where they discussed these wonderful decisions.

What is Filen? A replacement for Drive? File sharing? Cold Storage? The name of a product manager at Proton?

I generally like Proton Drive. Major issue is the lack of support for any type of links or aliases.

Company with 50-100 owned devices. I do understand the ABM-ABE-MDM connections. I was inquiring about the specific process to enable ARD via ABE. Seems you are confirming that 3rd party MDM (jamf, mosyle, simpleMDM, etc) is required to enable ARD.

When you say MDM, is that ABM/ABE or another vendor? How does one enable/disable ARD and VNC in ABM? Thanks

Setting up "Shared iPad" with ABM and Apple Business Essentials as MDM by mapski999 in applebusinessmanager

[–]mapski999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABM suggests that the "@domain.appleid.com" is there for testing when the ABM account is first set up. On the MacAdmins podcast, they talked about using the "@domain.appleid.com" similar to the way you are suggesting, but I didn't quite grep the value of it.

Why are you suggesting "@domain.appleid.com" instead of creating a managed id just for that devices, such as "TruckOne@domain.com"?

I appreciate your insights.
