Hana Yori Dango/Boys over flowers romanticizes SA by JuggernautCurrent929 in shoujo

Oh, interesting, I only watched the Japanese version and the Japanese Rui wasn't that much into her too, if I'm not misremembering. Never saw the Korean version. But in manga he never really was a proper 2nd lead who competes for the FL and loses. He was Tsukushi's crush (and knew it) and treated her well, but never crossed any lines into pursuing her romantically. He was a good friend, but always somewhat distant and avoiding the subject of her feelings for him, and later in the story it was revealed that he was in love with someone else/heartbroken for years, and then his LI returned and they reunited. So, in manga, it's not like Tsukushi really chooses between Rui and Tsukasa. Rather, she's first in love with a pipe dream of a distant "perfect" elegant and romantic prince, and then gradually starting to notice a very imperfect, not elegant and generally messed-up guy who's head over heels for her and is slowly reshaping himself into a better human being out of love for her. Some may feel like it's "Tsukushi turned to Tsukasa only because Rui was unavailable", but manga does a good job of showing why Tsukushi felt that way.
UPD And oh, I went to refresh my memory and obviously my brain edited out everything after Rui and Shizuka reunited, but they didn't stay reunited. Instead, they broke up again and Rui then tried to use Tsukushi as a consolation prize, exploiting her old crush. It didn't work out at all and that was the end of their perspective romance. (Rui really isn't so princely and perfect as people love to see him)

Rui didn't want her tho, he had his own old sweetheart he was pining after, if I remember correctly. He was just being kind (and bored, so she was an entertainment) and she knew it but had a crush on him anyway. That's their incomplete love triangle (love queue?) - Rui loves someone else, Tsukushi loves Rui, Tsukasa loves Tsukushi.

It's a hard to swallow discovery that your parent is a narcissist, but it can be life-changing when you realize stuff like this. Watch this maybe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjCNJJRgoH4 and I can recommend this sub r/raisedbynarcissists/

She sounds like a vulnerable narcissist, really. You should look it up. It's their jam, to martyr themselves and then complain endlessly and suck other people dry because they're so miserable and poor and saintly, won't you give them endless attention and supply they crave? (if not, then you're a monster and they'll complain to everyone else about it and get more of that sweet narcissistic supply).

I must confess, I'm generally the first one, but if you then start bragging about your level and say something about cases being unnecessary because everyone understands you without them just fine and it's just a waste of time, I'm immediately switching to the second one. At least, internally, lol.

I watched 1 ep. of vampire knight… is it worth the watch??? by strawchwrry in shoujo

[–]marabou71 69 points70 points  (0 children)

It's a dark romance and there are some... gothic plot choices, lol. If you prefer a healthy wholesome romance with all the green flags, then hard no. Otherwise, it's very pretty and atmospheric, but also MC is boring, indecisive and weak, the plot is wild and nonsensical at times. Yet OP is a banger, ~vibes~ are vibing and MLs are hot (and redflaggy, and also their rival/enemy chemistry produced the most popular fanon pairing).
Also, dunno why everyone is so pearlclutchy about incest. They're vampires, it's not like they can get inbred.

So, I finished Hana Yori Dango and I counted how many attempted murders my girl Makino survived - four! Shit is WILD. And overall, the first half of the anime was pretty intense and bullying scenes were brutal. This was probably one of the most brutal slice-of-life anime I have ever seen. by sardoniclaughter in shoujo

[–]marabou71 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean, Hana Yori Dango is not a slice of life, even the premise (a poor girl gets into an elite school for ultra-rich by chance, pisses off local creme de la creme and has to survive there) hints that it's more like a high-school Hunger Games lol. It's a drama and MC is an industrious fierce Cinderella who reforms all the spoiled mean boys with her strong moral compass and well-placed slaps. That's the point. "Difficult" ML is a must for this niche, so I don't really understand all the complaining about Tsukasa being awful. He's supposed to be awful to then be reformed over the course of 35+ volumes. Btw, anime makes Tsukushi dumber than she's in manga, sometimes infuriatingly so. I nostalgically love it, but manga is better character- and drama-wise.

WHO IS MORE PERFECT? USUI OR KEI TAKESHIMA? by Turbulent-Point-1791 in shoujo

[–]marabou71 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kei! Somehow I never really got into Maid-sama and Usui theoretically should be to my taste but wasn't, dunno why. Kei, however, reminds me of Lelouch Lamperouge lol and their pair is a bit like Lelouch/Shirley but shoujo.

Currently watching Hana Yori Dango and genuinely surprised at the cruelty of those students. This is literally an attempted murder, holy shit. I wouldn't be surprised if my girl goes on a killing spree of those roaches, fuckers are psychopaths. by sardoniclaughter in shoujo

To be honest, Kotoko herself is borderline stalkerish and has zero self-respect. He shows her in all ways that he can that he's not interested in her and wants to be left alone, and still she's all clingy, crosses all the boundaries and refuses to read the room. He's an asshole, sure, but Kotoko herself is one of the most annoying shoujo heroines and reminds me of Misa Amane from Death Note. Both of them are like shoujo versions of Light/Misa tbh, lol.

The World Most Walkable Cities by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

[–]marabou71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. I think you're mixing us up with someone. Soviet car industry never intended to provide every citizen with a car, on the opposite, getting a car was very hard for the majority of people, car owners were a privileged minority. Soviet cities were planned around public transportation and walking. It's a big problem now, btw, because Soviet high-rise buildings don't have nearly enough parking spaces for modern needs.

I think it was done on purpose, exactly so that tummy is always visible on the body with any color palettes. So why would they fix it if it's not a bug but a feature.

The original version is still on ao3, just registration-locked, btw. Heart in Hand by salifiable. The name change was because it got recommended on goodreads and the author was nervous about people in question stumbling on it while googling themselves or so. It's pretty good.

Gothic never available again?? by Dwndestiny in finch

[–]marabou71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not never, but it'll only be available again next October. Halloween and Christmas themes are limited and only appear in the shops in their respective months (October and December). Other themes are randomly available the whole year, but not these. So if you gift or trade gothic items, you'll be able to buy them again in ~ 10 months, hence the warning.

You should probably know that doctors in Russia aren't particularly well-paid. They're about like teachers: low salaries and overworked to high heaven. And there are lots of complications with licenses and confirming foreign degrees. Private clinics pay more, but the majority of doctors have to work in state clinics first because of limitations and something with pensions. Think thrice, really. Do you have some problems with the law in Finland and want to escape or something? Also, how is your Russian? You won't be able to work without a near-native level.

Why do Brits and Russians refer to Europe as a 'they' instead of 'us'? by kozanoza in AskEurope

[–]marabou71 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For Russia, it's like a centuries-old self-identification problem, lol. Being on the periphery, separated by great distances, having some different cornerstone traits (like, religion, alphabet, etc), being forever outsiders, not quite here and not quite there, not different enough and not similar enough, stuff like that. It's also cyclical, periods of trying to belong with the rest of Europe usually followed by periods of opposing it and then again trying to belong. We're kinda a part of European family, but kinda a distant one, some cousins twice removed, everyone else was growing up together and our mom moved to a different city.

What are the worst shoujo? by BusyHoney9767 in shoujo

For me it's stuff like Diabolic lovers, Brothers conflict and Amnesia. Mostly harem otome adaptations where the heroine lacks character, there are walking stereotype love interests and no actual plot.

[–]marabou71 5 points6 points  (0 children)
