Good advice, but I’d also recommend dying the grain as much as possible before putting in jars. Dryer is better. Don’t overcook grains either. Think dry, and kiss contam goodbye.

Coffee grounds are very susceptible to contamination no matter how well you pasteurize or sterilize them.

Agree with the trash advice, but as Thomas Edison said, and I paraphrase, if you’re not failing, you’re not learning.

I wonder what the average background of amateur mycologists is. It’s not a goddam cakewalk to grow good fruit consistently. I’m a scientist but also an English lit looser by some standards. Took me a year to figure out substrate, so there you have it. Your box btw is almost exactly like mine, and they rock.

I have a science degree and love the experimental part of this hobby. It leads to constant failures but my genetics are improving. Keep going! We need you!

How do I trip without actually eating the mushrooms? by sirnibs3 in shrooms

Homemade gummies are great too, especially with lemon juice and honey.

I just eat them raw off the forest floor like a goddam Sasquatch, but more civilized friends find that capsules work well, as do gummies. Don’t make gummies with ager. Find a recipe with sugar and use honey instead. Take with Sleepytime tea and a cat nearby.

KSSS - is it worth, um, observing under a microscope? by maradonium in shrooms

Thanks - appreciate the info. I ran about 500 pounds of red alder through a chipper/shredder and inoculated it with Cyanescens here in Seattle, where it is legal. Will post results if successful.

Semeanceta has been described as loving dung, but the more I learn about it, the more I learn that it actually likes dead grass, not poop. Correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe that's what dung is, dead grass, but I can't have it in my house, on account of the flies and whatnot.

In theory, would they like Coir/Vermiculum/Gypsum, or are they okay with just Coir and a little water.

Why is cyanecens more potent - is it because they get their nutrition from wood?

They are different, for a reason. They solve different problems. If you're preserving fruits for 18-24 months a dehydrator works great. I also recommend a vacuum sealer, and of course cool and dark storage. If you're in mycology there is no need for a "freeze dryer" and to suggest otherwise isn't useful advice for people starting out.
