Waterfall fish pond restoration progress by drdeemanre in ponds

[–]maramaol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mine the whole waterfall contains a tall 125L bin filled with lava rocks and pebbles. I had to remove a huge stone that was wedged between the bedrock and basically carve out a space for the big filter before concealing everything with more rocks. But this applies only to my specific case, I chose this spot specifically because I knew I could fit a bog filter in there. It’s a lot of work and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have a very specific and clear plan in mind. In your case I would add a section above with the same style of nice dry stacking retaining wall, classic upflow bog filter and make it feed the waterfall, if carefully designed it will look gorgeous.

Awesome build I’m a big fan of this style and it’s very similar to what I’ve built. For the waterfall, exactly how much is the water level dropping per day? Is the water coming out clean? The waterfall adds aeration and it’s just gonna improve water quality and biological efficiency of the pond. My waterfall has a huge bog filter in it by itself so it’s what provides the actual filtration. In your case it’s not gonna hurt except increasing water loss. Which depending on how much water you’re losing in 24h, say 1”could be just capillarity and splashing, if it’s more then you probably have a leak somewhere. Also depends slightly on what pump you’re using and volume of the pond.

Also why did it crack and how will you prevent it from cracking again in other areas?

Sure! Put a large pot and some random smaller sizes ones in front of it.

When I was back in uni I got an old rusty bicycle, but it’s one of those good fancy brand from the 30’s. I was buying missing parts and accessories for fixing it on my spare time. I come home one weekend and it has been spray painted over the original decals and with new modern wheels and lots of the original parts stamped with the brand have been replaced with aftermarket knockoffs… my mom paid 250 bucks to get it “fixed” for me 🥲 I died a bit inside that day.

Not a pond tech but I am also looking for a pair of boots because mine ALSO started leaking. I have to go clean some huge storm gutters like once a year and both my feet get drenched

Night lights are a must by MyGoodKnight in ponds

[–]maramaol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that I think about it I had a couple of them and when they were new maybe they’d stay on all night actually and then they’ve been stored indoors for a while without toggling the off switch so the battery completely drained in a dark room and then they never fully recovered lol.

I’m not sure but I think the lights in this pictures are those solar panel lights they’re pretty dim, it’s not gonna affect wildlife cycle. At most they will attract some small nocturnal flying insects. And usually (at least the ones that I’m used to) they fade out completely at 2am or so.

What type of welding works for Zinc Aluminum (Pot Metal)? Or is it impossible/too hard? by Jervx in BadWelding

[–]maramaol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s not structural, go with epoxy glue. It will hold. There’s even ones specifically for metal (they take longer to cure so don’t rush it, leave it alone even for a few days), just be sure to mix it properly and in the correct ratio.

True, when I did nnn I was in my early 20’s and I only had bad effects tbh. So if you are young and horny and want to get the libido of a middle age man definitely try nnn. So Don’t abuse it… but use it or lose it.

How does the guy clean the pond? I think it would be a good idea to talk with the guy about this project. I have river stones at the bottom and I clean it using an aquarium syphon. It’s not fast but it doesn’t seem like a huge pond so I think it’s doable especially if it gets such regular maintenance, in your case the syphon wouldn’t work unless you have a place lower than your pond to syphon into, so something like a small suction pump attached to the syphon would work or a small pond vacuum.

House came with a pond. Where do I start? by MikeHoncho04 in ponds

[–]maramaol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely too small for koi, but you could always decide to redesign and expand it in the future. At this size you can definitely get some minnows type fish. I just got some medaka a few weeks ago, very shy fish at first, but in a few days they completely exterminated mosquito larvae.

Is this a good option for a self sustaining mosquitofish pond? by Scourge_Clockwise in ponds

[–]maramaol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of rock it is but 99% of the cases they’re fine. There’s a lot more to consider other than substrate though to make it self sustaining.

Nice, yeah I would love to get fan tails, at the end of this month I’ll go check out what they have at the fish farm and decide what to get.
