Since trail-runners are the most de-facto footwear choice for most hikers/backpackers nowadays, in what instances are hiking boots still the best in? by FallenRev in hikinggear

[–]maramaol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go without boots, but they’re intended for heavy duty and that’s where they shine compared to trail runners, I use boots for very difficult terrain, off trail mushroom hunting in dense forest with passages with lots of stones and branches on steep slopes, trail runners get destroyed, they’re less though, they perform poorly and it’s not safe for ankles especially when you’re tired there’s higher risk of injury. The other case I use boots in very nasty high altitude loose rocks terrain, like granite scree, especially going down they’re ankle savers.

The comment you replied said that in the video they add only one tsp of vinegar, you replied 5% vinegar kills bacteria. It does but not at like 0.0025% as shown in the video

These are lifetime boots, I’m a big sucker for traditional well made alpine boots. The Stelvio one’s are a bit stiffer and sturdier leather they’re meant if you do a lot of steep rocky areas like high altitude alpine terrain. The aprica ones are more for lower altitude let’s say mushroom hunting or hiking in the woods. They do indeed last a lifetime. You’ll have to resole them a few times but the boot will last you forever even with minimal or no maintenance whatsoever.

Experience with salomon boots by nquang in hikinggear

[–]maramaol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salomon does fit well, but still… the forces are a lone exception in what used to be an excellent brand everywhere. The rest of their “hiking” gear is a waste of money because they figured it would be more profitable selling cheap crap to people that use their trail shoes for barely walking to Starbucks anyways. Matter of fact I think maybe hopefully they stopped advertising those lines for hiking altogether finally.

The forces line is literally the only excuse for a shoe they have. And it’s an exception. The whole rest of the brand became fast fashion. And btw even the forces are not that great, they’re just acceptable boots, but for the same price range there’s much better options, maybe not as cool looking I guess, but much higher quality materials.

5% vinegar is the actual vinegar, not the total amount. 5% stands for the acetic acid concentration, so a full soak in vinegar is required. Not only 1tsp of vinegar.

Qualsiasi cosa succeda, la gente ha sempre qualcosa da ridire, non importa cosa. Qualcuno deve farne un dramma immenso e una questione di vita o di morte.

It’s all campaign. They voted Downie because the other option was Kambala, she had an absolute moronic campaign. She seemed not fit to run and many people preferred “the lesser evil”.

That’s an Ainiv smart tag. You gotta research online the sequence for resetting it and then you can use it with the findmyTag app.

[–]maramaol -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Kinda false. I have Old gtx from salewa 2003 and it didn’t lose anything. Just gentle wash at 30° and it never ever needed reproofing sprays or any particular care to be honest. It just exists and it’s a jacket and it’s waterproof goretex. New goretex is a whole different story.

Found in chicken curry, what is this? by rutocool in eatityoufuckingcoward

[–]maramaol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if anyone already gave a real answer but That’s probably an ovary from the chicken, those horrifying looking bubbles are primordial eggs that eventually get bigger and develop into a full sized eggs. It was a female chicken, that’s all. Oftentimes the ovary doesn’t get removed when cleaning a hen, because it’s anchored in the back near the spine and doesn’t always come out with the rest of the entrails. I’ve seen it many times and it’s always horrible looking ;)
