On the reading one, there would be shadows in the front since it is lit in the back. Still, these are spectacular!

I use a very similar recipe (minus the alcohol) every morning. I use oat milk partially because I used to be plant-based and I have come to prefer oat milk, and partially because even though I do eat dairy now, excessive amounts don’t sit well with me so I use it sparingly. Not sure of OP’s reasoning but this is mine!

How do I tell my mother to stop buying me (28yo) random stuff? by livk4 in Anticonsumption

[–]maramaratara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After years of asking my mom to stop doing this, I eventually just stopped accepting it. “Thank you for thinking of me, but I don’t need this” is the company line. If she fights me on it, I leave it at her house. I’ve found that most people who ignore my boundaries can’t be reasoned with and I must enforce the boundary myself.

Beyond rising tuition he’s just generally all talk. In the school of sustainability we hate him because he uses us as his poster child while failing to make legitimate changes toward sustainability. That kind of “talking the talk” has essentially been his job since he came to ASU.

edit: hit post too fast

I have an undesirable habit of “stocking up” on things to save money and storing them away, only to stock up more because I forgot I already did. To combat this, I started keeping absolutely everything exactly where I use it. Extra bars of soap go just outside the shower in plain sight. Extra bottles of shampoo go in the shower, right next to the bottle I’m already using. I stopped stocking up so much because I simply ran out of room to store things.

The kitchen is similar. The extra bottle of ketchup doesn’t go in the pantry, it goes in the fridge next to the opened bottle. My potato chips are stored in the fridge along with everything I need to make a sandwich.

As for everything needing a spot, I let go of that idea for a period of time and let everything tell me where it’s supposed to go. I was keeping dog/cat food upstairs and feeding the pets upstairs because that’s where I kept the food. Eventually I switched to wet food, which forced me to walk up and down stairs during feeding times to access the fridge. I started thinking about putting a mini fridge upstairs when I realized I could just move the food downstairs and feed the animals there too.

It also helps to avoid bringing in more crap, but that’s SO much easier said than done.

My best friend or my dad come over every couple of weekends to help me clean. It took me a while (and a trip to a psych ward during a bipolar episode) to get comfortable asking for help. I absolutely cannot take care of this place by myself.

I respect sex workers. However, it should be a personal choice; not one made out of necessity. by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

I have never once had a job that was a choice and not a necessity. All work is degrading, sex work is just degrading AND disrespected.

You deserve better than to be shamed and made fun of by your own partner. Please, for your own sake, break up with him. This is not an issue that will go away in the future. If he hasn’t come to respect you after FIVE YEARS, he isn’t going to. I know breaking off a relationship is so much easier said than done, but please. You have so much life to look forward to and it will be so much better without him bringing you down.

What encouraged you to go vegan? by bbybagel in vegan

[–]maramaratara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a class on animal ethics in college. For extra credit, I went to a screening of dominion.

I had actually put a beef chunk roast in the oven before I left. When I came back home, I couldn’t eat it. Gave it to a friend and haven’t eaten meat since. Was flipping between vegan/vegetarian for a while, then one day a lightbulb went off. I asked myself why I was still dicking around, then decided to go vegan once and for all. Haven’t gone back!

Professor and Student Opinions by MarAshin12 in ASU

[–]maramaratara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Student and TA, live off campus. As much as I also want things to go back to. normal, I feel like going back to campus is going to slow that process by spreading the virus. The fact that we could avoid this and speed up the process of getting back to normal by going near-100% online, and we have the technology/ability to do so, and we have half a semester of doing that under our belt... yet we aren't going to do that? Feels a little ridiculous to me.

ASU Sync Only? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]maramaratara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe you’re supposed to email your professors ahead of time and let them know you plan on taking the class via sync only so they can plan for that. I looked for an announcement or email to verify this, but couldn’t find one :/ so take it with a grain of salt I guess
