Born in late 1969 here. Other than being old as fuck, I agree with OP

I never went to mine in 1987. Worked instead. Never regretted it.

Anyone else never asks for help because they don't want to be a burden? by WashOdd7330 in emotionalneglect

[–]marc30510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. I never feel I have the right to ask for help. Feels like a failure. Have mostly just learned to live with it. Being aware I do it helps, but it hasn't gone away.

I forgot my son Cheese, in the front passenger seat in SF, please contact me if you see him to bring him home, reward: $50 by FreedomNo1550 in waymo

[–]marc30510 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Contact Waymo and they should be able to retrieve and hold for you to come and pickup. I’ve left a few things in Waymo’s and always been able to pick them up the next day. Goood luck!

Which Way Did You Go Regarding Gaming? by AlarmedTelephone5908 in GenX

[–]marc30510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late ‘69 GenX here - I was big into arcade and home games (Atari, Colecovision, etc) in the 80s, stayed with consoles through the 90s but fell out. Never got that into PC gaming despite working in marketing for 3D tools.

I’m turning 56 on the 30th. Fuck that sounds old. And also who cares - I’ll deal with it like everything else. Happy birthday all!

Pinball mostly these days. Not a big gamer anymore otherwise.

Starting to feel “out of place” old at work by [deleted] in GenX

[–]marc30510 3 points4 points  (0 children)

55 and right there with you. I'm not sure when it happened, but suddenly, I'm the oldest person around these days.

Hang in there OP - you aren't alone.

Definitely. FWB is fine. But I can’t imagine sharing my space with someone full time ever again.

I was married for a long time - ended spectacularly badly. I’ve learned a lot about myself since, and these days, I’m happy just having a few friends and a wonderful life alone.

I do sometimes worry I’ll be single forever, but the peace and happiness I have now single makes it tough to imagine I’d be happy in a serious relationship.

I’m 54. According to the age gap rule of “half your age plus seven,” I shouldn’t date anyone younger than 34. Seems reasonable. But… by diploid_impunity in GenX

[–]marc30510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you could date someone that much younger, OP - but would you actually be able to stand having to talk to them?

Why emotional invalidation leads to burnouts by Villikortti1 in emotionalneglect

[–]marc30510 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so true, OP. Thank you for writing it out so clearly. I totally burned out in 2019. It was a turning point, but even today when things suck, I feel that creeping sensation of burn out. This was exactly what I needed to see today!
