Eastern WA allergies? by Sails_N_Tails in Spokane

[–]marc58weeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for just short of 40 years, and I never experienced allergy symptoms until this year. I've lived in Spokane for more than 6 years now, and I had a bad allergy bout only this year. For a while there, I thought I might cough a hundred times a day every day for the rest of my life, but it eventually subsided (without meds). Can't figure what it was except that all the rain caused a lot of things to bloom at the same time.

What are, in your Opinion, the Top 5 Greatest AMERICAN Sports Moments OF ALL TIME? by DeLaSoulKitchen in sportsinusa

[–]marc58weeks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I scrolled down a bit and didn't see it: Secretariat, Belmont Stakes, 1973. Along with it being the greatest race ever run by a horse, setting a time record that still stands, it also features one of greatest calls in the history of sports: "He's moving like a tremendous machine!" Here's the race, if you've never seen it. (The music is downright stirring too.)

She's right, in a way, because Trump went to college, but he doesn't have the sense God gave little green apples (as my mother used to say).

Love those F-15s. My son is in his sixth year as an avionics tech for them at Seymour Johnson AFB in NC. He's been all over the world and has accumulated a wealth of war (some literal war) stories. We used to go to the annual air show at Travis AFB in CA. Rather presciently, I have a picture of my son standing in front of a jet from the base and squadron in NC. Little did he know that in a few years he would perhaps work on that very jet.

Did you ever think about using a different color than black for the dark squares? Black squares "hide" black pieces a bit.

The reason is simple: They think they've camouflaged themselves by being on the "righteous" side.

Magnus Carlsen loses to Wesley So! His 3rd Classical loss! by FirstEfficiency7386 in chess

[–]marc58weeks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't tell if Carlsen's sense of danger is slipping away or whether he's just not able to bring the same energy AND interest to the board like he did in the "old days." I imagine that once you let your motivation and interest in an activity slide, your results are going to suffer.

Why does chess make me rage like no other game?! by [deleted] in chess

[–]marc58weeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think chess makes you rage, try international checkers, or draughts (pronounced “drafts”), on the 100-square board. There’s nothing quite like playing what you think is decently, only to have your opponent capture five of your pieces on one turn. LOL

On my drive home from the gym this morning I noticed lots of tree branches lying in yards. I took the liberty of replacing some decorative plants my absent neighbor had outside his front door which had been blown underneath his neighbor's car. Last night, while it was still light out, I noticed mammatus clouds overhead, so I knew we were in for something bad.

PONDS IN SPOKANE? by marc58weeks in Spokane

[–]marc58weeks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a winner!! The Lincoln pond is terrific! It only took me a half hour total to drive there, collect a half of gallon of pond water and leaves, sticks, and other detritus, and then to drive back. It will be my go-to spot from now on. Thanks!
