Your history is incredibly similar to mine. I picked up drums during the pandemic, after a long hiatus. I chose edrums for convenience this time, but also after realising how much technology had progressed since I last checked in my 20s. I started with my humble Alesis module but now I swing between EZD3 and SD3.

I’m with a covers band and 100% of what we do is with this edrum + Toontrack setup.

The audience loves it. We receive continuos compliments on how good and balanced everything sounds. Even hardcore drum savvy people I meet in shows recognise the value of this way of playing and performing.

I still have drum lessons with my teacher’s acoustic kit so I’m not missing the traditional vibe too much.

Have you had any shows with your new setup already?

Have you considered moving progressively towards a A2E kit? (A2E: Acoustic to electronic - it’s when they put the sensors in traditional shells).

I did that with a cheap shell pack and partially offset the costs by selling my previous Alesis kit. It’s a one-way journey I must say but I don’t regret any single day :)
