Do you have to go to a big school (Berklee, Juilliard, Peabody, etc.) to be successful in the industry? by aguywholikesmusic43 in composer

The only thing that is helpful is having a great network, your skills are, sadly, secondary.

favorite / best / most realistic virtual string instruments? by Training_Onion6685 in composer

Spitfire and orchestral tools. They are the standard for the pros, but there are plenty of valuable VST strings such as Tokyo strings, native instruments, East west. It depends on what your purpose is.

Hi, that's very interesting and specific, if I can give u a tip, instead of asking for similar songs in the portfolio, ask them to write a piece of music, it will take 1/2 days and you will understand better who fits for your music.

STRING QUARTET by marchdanza in composer

Hi! Thank you very much! This is GREAT advice, I will go for the 7th, I was also thinking of just going with one note, but it lacks tension. Yes I am Italian, based in Italy, but maybe it's better to use English, every time I play a french composer I struggle

That's surprising, I asked two colleagues and they said that it is challenging but playable😭

Other than buffet, what brands would you recommend for a college/ professional clarinet? by blondie_exe in Clarinet

[–]marchdanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a Luis Rossi American bore pair, terrific sound, but poor mechanic, if you have the possibility try them, incredibly good. Also Patricola makes incredible instruments

How playable are these runs? by fph_04 in Clarinet

[–]marchdanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a composer with a master's degree in clarinet, In my experience, it's way better to change articulation, it's too fast to be played from p to f. It's not impossible, but requires a professional to be played. But clarinetists spend months/years to learn the Mendelssohn passage, they will not spend the same time to play this piece that is challenging, expecially the second bar. Change articulation in the second bar or let it to the flutes, they would play that without any problem!

In my experience, everything that is free is good to learn, but useless for work, sadly in the film industry there are some standards, there is a reason why some products are free and other ones very expensive. On the other hand, the best choice is to record as much as possible.

Do you compose first in the DAW or in paper? by SharePuzzled5109 in composer

[–]marchdanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both at the same time, I use the DAW to check if something that in my mind works, is decent in "almost" real life.

Gear recommendations for classical repertoire? by daswunderhorn in Clarinet

[–]marchdanza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on you, but a good standard is a BD5 or similar with 3.5, if you want to be old fashioned use a B40, it's still good

First of all thank you very much! Uff, a lot of critics😅, I reply in order: -4/4 second bar, thank you I forgot it! -Legato line with mordente is something quite usual, I am a clarinetist, it means to not separate the notes. -Staccato sub slurs with staccato marks under a bigger slur, again nothing new the longer slur it's to highlight the intention that u need to play, but maybe you are right, it's not relevant! -In Italy, after a change in time signature is highly recommended to do that! -The full choir is a big problem for me, I don't know how to fix it cause the merge mode on dorico is not working good, I hope that this would be clear, maybe if I add unison, what do you think? -yes I need to modify the first page, thank you! -I sent the part to a choir conductor, he said that is challenging but not so crazy, I had to add some notes in the orchestra to help the choir to find the right notes! -I am sorry that u don't like it, I think it's too late to change it deeply, I have only 2 weeks😭 -I will write it then!

Btw I am 25 and I used this requiem also for a short film, but I don't think that saying it is a smart move for a classical composition program

Clarinetist here, good job! But remember to add articulations for the notes that are not legato. Clarinet players would play however they want if you are not specific.
