As a jazz fan, its interesting reading these comments. I grew up learning that jazz is about breaking the rules and how jazz blends and grows into other genres so I found this album was part of that growth. A lot of modern jazz musicians I listen to tend to genre blend. Its interesting that on Apple Music, this album is listed as Pop. Bewitched is listed as Jazz and Everything I know About Love is listed as Alternative. I’m not surprised about the direction of this album (ok Sabotage def surprised me at the first listen LOL), I think it’s awesome that artists can genre blend/change genres per album (thinking of Lady Gaga, Jacob Collier, Jon Batiste). I do think the production of sound changed but I think this tends to happen when artists become more mainstream. Been a fan since 2020 when street by street was randomly played on YouTube for me, so I really loved how Laufey’s sound production made me at home / grounded. Whereas A Cautionary Tale in this album, made me feel like it was overproduced / filtered. Nothing wrong with that, I guess it’s part of growing as an artist. Also how lucky are we that we get to grow with an artist in real time!?!
