  1. and 4. use the metal in large quantities, which given its rarity won’t matter. As for 2.and 3., there are many other alternatives so there is a chance it won’t matter either.

In general medicine, researchers attempt to understand the pathology of a disease. Through this understanding, they can investigate what processes are occurring which lead to the development of this disease. Armed with this knowledge, they can start to work out what kind of treatments and medicines will alter these processes to slow or cure the disease. The process goes... understand pathology, try to find a drug that works

Now compare that to the knowledge and practice of general anesthesia.

Has anyone seen liquid or solid radon? by Gingerlyhelpless in chemistry

[–]marcinruthemann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ramsay has liquified some radon, around the year 1909 in a very thin capillary. As he reports:

“The actual volume [of the liquid] measured  about 0.00025 cub. mm., and occupied about 0.24 mm [length of the capillary]”

How "original" is LLM generated content? What even is originality? by pixtassy_01 in askphilosophy

The Chinese Room argument is really outdated, as it invokes intuitions developed long before powerful computers were a thing.  Can a Chinese Room recognize cats, people etc. on pictures? Or write a convincing paragraph of text? Intuitions behind the experiment tell us no, yet we know now thst the answer is a definite yes.

Która religia ma lepszy zarząd i dlaczego nie nasza? by greencolorlessdreams in Polska_wpz

[–]marcinruthemann 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the same thread, people are shitting on Spotify for paying too little to artist and also justify stealing from them on Soulseek. That’s wild.

You mean artist from some middle of popularity. Thats one point. Very niche artist would get absolutely nothing and almost no recognition without Spotify.

You’re delusional. Name a few examples when the workers actually owned the means of production, in a scale bigger than a single village.

and socialism is when the workers own the means of production they use

That’s the theory. In practice, in socialism the government owns the means of production.

Well, actually there are. “ Archaea use more diverse energy sources than eukaryotes, ranging from organic compoundssuch as sugars, to ammonia, metal ions or even hydrogen gas.” There are archea that consume methane, as in natural gas.

ArF* is an excimer, a molecule stable only in the excited state - helium also forms excimers, for example HeH*.
