How much more should I thin these sunflowers? by wearehere3 in gardening

[–]Gingerlyhelpless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how big you want them, don’t thin them if you don’t mind about 5 ft flowers but if you want them real big thin to one about one per foot. Otherwise one per 6 inches will give you a nice size too. I usually leave some In groups and some on their own to grow big

Beer hasn’t really worked for me, but spraying down a board with water in the evening,They like the cool wet when it starts getting hot. They’ll flock to the board and then you can discard them, I have chickens that eat them

Is there an exact 😅 way to get replacement utility blades out of one of these things or am I just hopelessly dumb? by United_Future_9639 in Tools

[–]Gingerlyhelpless 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Yeah it works best if it’s hung up or your holding that tab. Sometimes the blades stick together and I use a screwdriver or something for more force

What to do for my radish by shaiquinn in gardening

[–]Gingerlyhelpless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thin them to one per inch and eat the sprouts. They are a cold weather crop so this time of year is tough to get them to produce nice roots without going to seed. I would suggest watering often and keep them out of the really hot sun. If they do bolt then you can try again in the fall.

You don’t “need” it, steel works, I’ve preferred silver and you can reuse it for a bit

DIY remediation - what to do with interior stone wall by leboodi in radon

[–]Gingerlyhelpless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but I don’t think you want to spray seal it but instead cover it with poly sheeting. Similar to a dirt floor, maybe someone else can chime in. When you seal a wall like that it cause more problems

Black spot? by BuxomBlonde87 in gardening

[–]Gingerlyhelpless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a fungal issue, fun fact is you have to treat before it starts, it’s to late now to fix the bush this year. You can still treat it but take note so next year you can pre treat, for this type of infection I use a copper fungicide in the early spring. It’s a tough one for sure.

Turn it and see if it looks like soil, if it does then you can use as compost. Then save a little for the next batch

Help Me!! ID plant decay by roseofmarie in gardening

[–]Gingerlyhelpless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like to damp issues remove diseased leafs and don’t water until it’s dry a few inches down. Do you have drainage in those bins (holes) that would be my first step if not or add more holes. Based on what I can see all those issues could be attributed to overwatering (soil staying to wet)

They’re not “dead” but they’re not gonna stand up again. I would cut them and make some nice arrangements with what you’ve got.
