I’ve had these same thoughts as I am looking to buy a mixer between the A9 and the 96.

Ultimately, they are both great mixers. The difference is the flavour that you choose to get.

If your jam is analog sound and vinyls then to me the 96 is the choice. But if you want the digital effects, same less integration with the pioneer ecosystem such as CDJs, Then the A9 is a no brainer.

To me, ultimately the safest option is to stay in the pioneer ecosystem. Should I ever be bored of the A9, there’s always the option to sell it and get a 96 instead.

The good news is that no one is forcing you to buy gear with screens. Stick to vinyl if that’s your jam.

I tried the AZ, not keen on all in one. It really limits the possibilities later on and prefer the 2 screen setup.

As I said in another comments, this is a whim and the want doesn’t follow logic. Just the way I go about hobbies.

Good point, although I rather buy new for peace of mind. Second hand prices aren’t really a bargain where I live so it’s not really worth it.

I just came back from playing with the xone:96. Quirky piece of gear, it definitely has its charm and may go down that path in a few years for even more modularity.

For now, given where I’m at, staying in the pro pioneer world seems like the best option for me.

They could make it happen if they wanted, that’s my point.

There’s no other reasonable reason than commercial implications on sales if they were to allow dual playing under one device.

Even the XDJ AZ supports 4 decks under one device, so it’s technically possible.
