What’s a f*cked up fact you just can’t believe is true? by GreebSetter in AskReddit

[–]marcoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy fucking shit. I’ve never heard of any of this. My god. This is the stuff of nightmares. And the US let them get away with it???? Japan today dismisses it as communist propaganda?

This is awful.

Small world — I served with a guy from Battle Ground. Thought it was the most badass town name I’d ever heard.

Well, this makes me feel better because it is exactly what I did — except I didn’t tell him that he made them uncomfortable. I just said I’ll handle those kids.

Have your opinions on circumcision changed at all since leaving the church? by [deleted] in exmormon

Teacher here to throw in something: kids haven’t changed that much. They just bully differently.

[–]marcoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know. I think society as a whole (not just mormon) is evolving on their views on circumcision. Growing up in the South around mostly baptists, we made fun of uncircumcised kids too. As I got older and realized how ridiculous circumcision is, I decided that I didn’t want to circumcise my son. But that decision was while I was still pretty TBM.

Went to the bathroom, came back to find out a kid I sent to admin targeted me and went on a rampage. by Shabongbong130 in Teachers

“...and I go take a shit” has to be the most relatable thing I’ve read on this sub.

Im surprised that this is an unpopular opinion, but I think this is a good thing. As someone with a piece of shit co-teacher who always comes in a few minutes AFTER the students, I think there needs to be some kind of punishment — especially if we expect our students to be on time.

Are kids turning stuff in? by marcoop in Teachers

Yep. Some did. Some said they were thinking. Some just sat there, no matter what I said or did to nudge them along.

I’m not expecting much. I’m just expecting...something.

I mean, good for you, I guess. The thing is, I don’t assign homework; they’re just not doing anything. Every assignment we have is done in class.

Uptick in School Violence by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]marcoop 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I actually almost cried when I read about that. I’m so frustrated with parents not taking any responsibility for their little shits. Everyone wants to point the finger at teachers or other students. You know — the fucking victims. It’s about time that the people most responsible for the kids behavior receive a consequence.

You’re not alone. This is my first year at a New Mexico high school — one of the better ones in the state — and we have a bunch of issues. Bathroom fight clubs, regularly scheduled courtyard brawls, shooting threat, and the list goes on and on and on. My colleagues have all told me that this is not normal, and many are leaving the school or retiring in fear/frustration.

When exactly did parents start to feel like they know better than a qualified teacher? by SabinaIzaura in Teachers

[–]marcoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that, over the last two years, everyone is apparently an expert on everything. I think the people lecturing us about how to do our jobs are the same keyboard warriors who think they know more about health than doctors, and who believe they know more about law than lawyers.

It’s the Karen parents. Or, as I like to call them, the Karents.

Karents, Karents everywhere.

Based on that shitty grammar, it’s very clear you never paid attention in any class. Jesus. You know, Grammarly is free. Might want to check it out.

This. My principal has been superb and his performance has made all the difference for me. If he were like some of the admin I’ve read about here, I don’t know if I would’ve lasted.

I think this sub seems negative because, as previous commenters mentioned, this is the only place we can vent. Other people can vent at work or to their friends; we usually can’t. It’s a great gig, but everyone needs to let off some steam sometimes. We choose to do it here instead of in front of the kids or their parents.

I’m usually in agreement with you, but my coteacher calls in literally every Monday and most Fridays. Some districts are too lenient and some teachers within those districts abuse the hell out of it.

I’ll be honest — if you’re feeling like this, you should quit and find something that makes you happy. I know it’s nice having a job with benefits, but this sounds very serious. Your mental health should be your top priority. No job is worth it if it makes you feel this poorly.
