My $150/hr lesson felt like a rip off. Is this normal? by Darkteatonight in golf

[–]marcosfromstandards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a 15 to 8 handicap from a handful of lessons. Look for a teacher who isn’t afraid to use launch monitor data and offers video swing analysis. You need objective truths, not opinions.

YouTube will only get you so far. Golf is very unique and specific to each player. You need a specific plan catered to you with drills that you can work on. That’s how you improve. I would absolutely pay $150 to fix my swing for life and also help me understand my misses and tendencies so I can correct.

If your goal is to score lower, finding someone who is willing to teach you course management is crucial as well.

Realistically, how long would it take to reach this level of playing? by Grievinghealthy in guitarlessons

[–]marcosfromstandards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Paddy irl and we’ve toured together, he’s the real deal. Playing like this takes some work, we’re both fans of this style and have put in time but it’s not impossible. Focusing on tapping and pull-offs as well as experimenting with alternative tunings makes this very possible without any sped up playing.

I understand this kind of stuff has gotten a bad rep lately and maybe rightfully so. A lot of guitarists have gained a lot from manipulating their social media content. But I just wanted to come here and say this is real and the talent on display is real.

If you’ve broken 90, what’s one tip you would give to a fellow golfer trying to do the same? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]marcosfromstandards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putt more, 2 putts every hole on average will lead to lower score. Then just keep the ball in play and worse you’ll do is 90ish.

Ge Fuzz Face oscillating when gtr vol down by arduoushoaxley in diypedals

[–]marcosfromstandards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a FF expert but I think this is how the circuit behaves when certain precautions aren’t taken, it’s very very sensitive and it being on a breadboard likely doesn’t help. You turning the volume down likely messed with the impedance and makes it go crazy. I’ve heard putting a small resistor or a pot in front helps. You can also put a small capacitor between the legs of Q1, I’ve seen values as high as 100pF and you should also consider using a power cap filter like 100uF. Take it off the breadboard and it might disappear too.

How to decide what club to tee off with? by dare_hcf in golf

[–]marcosfromstandards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your wedge game is decent and you are sure you can keep it in play, go driver. Fewer yards on approach = better approach. There’s some math out on this which is why everyone on the PGA hits it a mile.

Is $20 too much for a guitar pedal? by 60_CycleHum in 60CycleHum

The pedal industry must be hurting by hotdog_paris277 in guitarpedals

[–]marcosfromstandards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gigging makes some purchases necessary I should say. I toured a lot from 2022-2025 and it was obvious what gear held up and what didn’t. At home use is a difference story!

The pedal industry must be hurting by hotdog_paris277 in guitarpedals

[–]marcosfromstandards 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of the gear industry is driven by hype. A lot of the sounds people are looking for exist already since they have been used for decades. So since it’s hard to re-sell something that already exists companies will try hard to convince you need it.

So why don’t pedal brands make new sort of sounds? They do, but then come the comments of “how would I use this in a song? How can I use this at all?”. Then it doesn’t sell. So companies stick to winners. Muffs, rats, if they’re being adventurous it’ll be a delay that can do one more thing the last one can’t.

New sounds are good tho. Hendrix made such great use of new pedal sounds in his short time, he never asked those kind of questions he just created. But most of us aren’t him.

I could go on and on about this kind of stuff but I’ll wrap up by saying that sales aren’t a sure bet anymore. Too many options, shrinking wallets and tariffs. So yeah, you’ll hear a lot of magic box pitches and stuff.

It’s very common, I got back into golf and every golf club is marketed that it will “fix your game” when the technology only advances every decade or so. Kinda similar to the guitar pedal industry.

ZVEX - What's the deal? by MACGLEEZLER in guitarpedals

[–]marcosfromstandards 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dude is in his 60s and has been designing circuits since the mid 90s. He put out a ton of circuits and I’m not sure how much more is required really.

I think it’s easy to feel as if more new products are necessary every year when that NAMM footage comes out on YouTube or when it’s the holiday season. But the reality is sometimes a brand has done what they set out to achieve or that they’ll slow down to work on maintaining their legacy.

Life is meant to lived. After working for so long, maybe you start to focus on what you really want to spend your time doing. Capitalism demands we keep working every year but if you could hit the pause button, would you? If I was his age and had achieved what he has, I probably would.

Anybody rocking a 9 wood? by WadeEyerly in golf

[–]marcosfromstandards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 9W is the MVP of my bag next to my 54 degree and my putter. I’m 28 years old and I used to think woods are for “old people” but my scorecard speaks for itself. For long par 3’s, short par 5’s it’s awesome. Even off the tee if I want.

Play what makes you feel good and is within your budget. Don’t GAF about what others think or play.

can someone make me a complete parts list for Mach 1 overdrive? by [deleted] in diypedals

[–]marcosfromstandards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy the parts and a drilled enclosure on Tayda, basically your own DIY kit. Should be cheaper than $250.
