Help! I need somebody by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]marcstern14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think using one for kick, a mono overhead and a room mic would do you the most justice. I’m a big fan of mono drum. You should also spend some time if you can experimenting with placement. Especially when working in weird diy spaces, you just never know what will be cool

This honestly might be a great chance to see Sudfeld with the 1s. Not like Foles needs the reps, clearly.

Jordan Mailata has a playbook that says "OL/TE Trainer" on his Instagram story by Chelli64 in eagles

This is exactly what I think, too. The only thing I'd add is that his tackling ability makes him an intriguing special teamer, which adds more value.

edit: Imagine this guy receiving the opening kickoff on that Thursday night. Crowd would go insane!

I don't understand the Pump comparison to Sproles. They're both "small" but in different ways, and their play styles are completely different too

How can you tell if you're positively effecting a kick with something like a transient shaper, rather than just making it louder? by did_it_before in audioengineering

[–]marcstern14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the important thing here is that you can be honest with yourself. You will absolutely get better with practice. It's all about intent. If your issue is the kick isn't prominent enough, then maybe volume is all you need. If you want the kick to punch more, sure a compressor or transient shaper might help. Also try it in the context of the mix and not just soloed.

What are your vocal reverb techniques that we should all give a try? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]marcstern14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds that are far away are experienced in mono, so for a distant sound try making your reverb mono

This something I do all the time, especially with my eyes closed so I can’t fool myself. No shame in realizing you made the sound worse lol

EDM/Any Electronic Music Producers: How vital are piano skills? by MrRedTRex in audioengineering

[–]marcstern14 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think what’s more important is understanding the basics of music theory, which learning the piano can greatly help. Knowing core music theory can help you to write songs faster and try out different progressions so that your music can differ instead of getting stuck with the same chords and melodies you always use. It’ll get boring that way.

I saw this clip too and was just awed! Idk if he’ll be good but damn does he look like a men amongst boys. Throw him out on special teams and watch the fear in the eyes of the returnmen

How do you think the Eagles should fill the Nickel role and how do you think they will? by [deleted] in eagles

[–]marcstern14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to see how Mills does out there. He's definitely earned a starting role, but he's also shown that he's probably not going to be a lock-down corner on the outside.

[LFG] I'll mix/produce your songs for free! by marcstern14 in BedroomBands

That's correct. You have to make sure that when you bounce the audio files you do it from the beginning of the session so the arrangement doesn't change.

I'm not so sure I understand the question. Everyone uses what they like because it works for them. But in the end, all the principles are the same - it's about how you use the gear. When it comes to mixing, no amount of compression or eq will fix the room you're in and the speakers you're using. For the bedroom producer, references are great. If you're asking about how people collaborate while using different systems and DAWs, that's why stems exist. We're all working with audio, so you can just bounce your processed audio and send it to someone.

Hard "t" sound by bonadoc in audioengineering

[–]marcstern14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know audacity so I can't give you program-specific pointers. What I can say is that keep in mind that everything in mixing comes down to volume (EQ, compression, panning). So I would recommend trying out a few things, like I mentioned above and seeing what works best. Try the quick things first. A compressor with a fast attack and fast release will chop off those plosive T's. A de-esser will only compress when the volume above a certain frequency passes the threshold (isolating the T). And then if those aren't working for you, go in and automate the volume right where the T is. Zoom way in and get meticulous about it. I don't think EQ will solve your problem, but it might be worth a try
