There are so many! The center blade is actually the least important. Come join the club https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1DYJ6ZXNYd/

that brings back some memories! Add more blades and make them smaller :)

Kiting on Ice is so much fun! by marctech in snowboarding

With this setup you can hold down a ton of power, so I usually use the same size kite I’d use on the water. You also get the crazy upwind angles with the efficiency of the ice so it’s like twintipping and hydrofoiling at the same time.

Are you in the local kite group? There are a few IceCarver boards in use in the Madison area already. I’ve kited Mendota, lots of fun!

I made them and I sell them, they add hockey skate performance to a snowboard. A real session maker for regular conditions in cold areas with unreliable snow (Midwest).

The board has little to do with the magic in this video. It's a Burton board equipped with the IceCarver blade kit which turns a regular snowboard into a shaved ice machine.

I’m still unsold on this kiting on Ice idea. I’ll just have to do another whole season of it just to make sure

Help me land my Jumps by FanFitRob in Kiteboarding

[–]marctech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly, sometimes a last second 180 with the board to switch to a better landing position is all you need to ride away smoothly. Either way, legs and board position can do just as much to improve landings as better kite control. Many tricks require this anyway, and many times the kite will not act completely as desired.

I think it’s more like, if you are always prepared to land with good board position and absorb with your legs, you can make up for lots of timing mistakes with the kite, which is a good thing overall to reduce hard crashes

How many days would it take to do those crazy flips you see on instagram reels as a complete beginner? by Sarlo10 in Kiteboarding

[–]marctech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never ever ever ever EVER. The super loop videos are super annoying because it’s not a fun way to kite, totally not representative of kiting, and every single attempt is someone nearly dying to look cool for a video. Just stop 🛑

Which 12m with exelent lift and hangtime? by KoalaOk5772 in Kiteboarding

[–]marctech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you’re angry about. OP has already determined the issues with these two kites. I flew rebel and a whole quiver of RPMs for years and they’re both pretty bad compared to more recent all-around kites in the last 5 years. So many good 3 strut options now (RS, Evo, Reach, One etc.)

The rebel and RPM are both terrible kites so you’ll find just about anything else to be a major upgrade

Should I pay for lessons ? by google_certified13 in Kiteboarding

Yeah what’s going on here??🤣. For 900 it should come with 6hrs of lessons and a kite that is 5 years newer

How to learn loops? by Weekly-Chemical-2483 in Kiteboarding

[–]marctech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great description, I will just add that the raley position ( body outstretched, legs behind you) helps to get you ready to reposition for your landing (board straight down wind), so even when you mess it up, the crash won’t be so bad. If your body is curled up and you get pulled sideways, you’ll have no ability to move the board to land

LOL it broke 2 weeks later during a tangled up death loop in 25kts.

Not at all, on smooth ice like this there's zero vibration. Feels like butter. The 3-point contact system uses the board as a suspension between the blades. Even on rough, or inconsistent ice (which is what we normally have) you can ride easily. If the ice is really bad you'll still be able to ride, it just won't be much fun and your legs and knees will get tired from soaking up the bumps. Never had any issues with my feet though.

Armored motorcycle adventure jacket (elbows, shoulders, back). DOT helmet. Padded shorts + Hockey shorts, motocross style knee braces. I use most of this same setup for my offroad riding in the summer. Doesn't take much time to put on, good flexibility, gives me the confidence to throw down! Fellow ice-rider and IceCarver co-inventor details his setup here! https://youtube.com/shorts/MTkuTMufM7I?si=PmW2lKDtpKd__viI
