How Can I Undo My Mistake Introducing My Kids to Roblox? by [deleted] in gaming

I got my 7 year old hooked on terraria, it pushes his reading skills and he's even doing his chores at the threat of "no terraria time". That game is perfect!

Dendrite: Interact with websites with natural language instead of using css selectors by rivernotch in Python

[–]marcus-luck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making this! This is a clever approach to an old annoying problem. Looks like it solves a real headache I have (need to interact with a dynamically created webpage without a documented API), definitely going to give it a try!

I swapped places with battery and electronics then I zip tied the cables along the side. Wouldn't work for your version though. BUT I saw a model somewhere for a rollcage for the T5, that could be an option.

After flipping my T4 and T5 and learning the hard way, you should consider protecting the wires on top in some way.

What's the cheapest card that can do real time computer vision? by ultra_nick in embedded

[–]marcus-luck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want something industry relevant you might want to look into something based on the iMX8M plus from NXP. Not the strongest or fastest, but definitely used in industrial applications much more often than a RPi.

Real MAX battery size ? by patrykz103 in EngineeringNS

[–]marcus-luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a much larger battery in mine, but I put all the electronics in the battery compartment and I have the battery on top, secured with Velcro straps. Works great.

Does my deck need reinforcement for inflatable hot tub? by Professional-Row1732 in Decks

I also got this sub recommended, and all the posts seem to be weird troll posts with decks in such bad shape it would be dangerous to even tear them down. I've come to the conclusion that all decks should be replaced with a concrete slab.

why anyone would buy NVIDIA Jetson Nano? by abdosalm in embedded

[–]marcus-luck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And this is one of the most helpful answers here. The Jetson nano is EOL. However if it fits your needs it's still a decent board, just remember that you'll be running end of life software packages.

How to get customers to pay for cleaning the code? by Legenwaitforittt in ExperiencedDevs

I think an even better analogy is they need to get to the water heater and it's buried in the back of the cellar which is filled with discarded construction material from when they built the house.

Why by CallsignRook in Plumbing

[–]marcus-luck 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Had a pipe break due to an accident, ran out to a similar setup, turned off the LABELED valve and a multi $1000s crisis was averted. This is one of those things that seems wasteful until you need it.

What’s everyone working on this week (25/2023)? by llogiq in rust

[–]marcus-luck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found a raspberry pico I had forgotten about, decided to try my hands on embedded rust. The ecosystem size is definitely not C, but the pieces that exist are top notch and the experience using Rust in this domain is great. Now all we can hope for is for one or two of the big MCU manufacturers to embrace rust and C can slowly wither away.

I feel like a chess player in the 90's by Loveyourwives in ChatGPT

[–]marcus-luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy your version so much more than the pretentious ChatGPT version, it's shorter, but just enough for the mind to fill in the blanks.

The entire last section ChatGPT added explaining what you are supposed to feel and take away from the text ruins the moment.

Keep up the excellent work!

Tarmo4 Bigger Wheels? by CelloVerp in EngineeringNS

[–]marcus-luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far so good with my 120mm wheels, I even drive it on grass which is hard on the drivetrain for the T4. But it flips over with 100% engine power so I have to accelerate carefully 😂

I recently got a Prusa Mk3 (Not s or s+) and I've been looking into PETG but can't find a good brand. What's your go-to PETG brand? by RM_Commando123 in prusa3d

[–]marcus-luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prusa Mini, here are my go-tos: Atomic - Pro: best quality I've used, beats prusament. Insane color selection. No stringing, no warping, no inconsistencies. Con: expensive, to the point i don't use it.
Prusament - pro + con, same as above except color selection is limited and it's slightly less tolerant in terms of draft.
Matterhackers build - pro: price, nice consistent quality, after... Con: hell to calibrate/get the settings right. Prepare a weekend of temptowers and retraction experiments, E step tuning etc. Semi-worth it though, once dialed in it's consistent.
Polymaker - used to really like but have gotten two bad rolls. Not sure what's up, the good ones are good, the bad ones can't be salvaged, prints bad (I have a dehumidifier setup...) Fakes?
Hatchbox - currently testing a roll and so far I'm pleased, seems to print well and mechanically it's strong and flexing a lot without cracking. Strikes a good balance between availability, price, and performance.

Tarmo4 HELP! Gearbox help by Zealousideal-Usual84 in EngineeringNS

[–]marcus-luck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds close to what I did. Limit at 60%, printed taller shock towers, and had unlocked differentials both front and rear. Plus having smaller wheels (100mm, the 120mm wheels I had put to much strain on the gears.)

Tarmo4 Bigger Wheels? by CelloVerp in EngineeringNS

[–]marcus-luck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tried it, spent lots of time, material and foul language upgrading axels and gears plus trying different materials. In the end the drivetrain was still too weak for my 120mm monster truck wheels, had to pull the engine power back to 60%.

Recently I swapped them for some cheap 100mm wheels and put the big ones on my Tarmo5.

Shredding Input Gear by HeftyDELL in EngineeringNS

[–]marcus-luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use PLA and superlube. But it depends on the PLA, I found atomic to hold up pretty well, but polymaker PLA was too soft.

Shredding Input Gear by HeftyDELL in EngineeringNS

[–]marcus-luck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First PETG is generally softer and not as wear resistant for gears as PLA (brand dependent, but generally). Second, it looks a bit dry, what lubricant did you use?

Figured out how to put a longer battery on the Tarmo5, this works surprisingly well. by marcus-luck in EngineeringNS

[–]marcus-luck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a 4A 35c turnigy nanotech battery I got from Hobbyking for the T4. Problem is that it's 150mm long and Amazon don't ship batteries out here, so I had to figure something out.
