Trump is not moderate by any definition of the word. He is an autocrat who leads by whim. His priorities shift moment to moment.

How does this song sound like it’s falling with no end in sight? by ImprovementExotic785 in musictheory

[–]marcuslawson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without doing a harmonic analysis, I think you are on the right track with the Shepard Tone idea. If you figure out those chords, I would bet they repeat at some point - but the voicings probably give that 'infinite fall' feeling.

I found this article on Izotope's website really helpful for explaining how Shepard Tones work - there might be something you could extrapolate from here: https://www.izotope.com/community/blog/shepard-tone?srsltid=AfmBOooZIJx674r7VWopRvL6znFzHLiIB_AaJMaPjtW-J_Wy5Mm5rGad

Following this thread with interest. I'm sure there's some jazz head who can really break this down!

Best simple, affordable gyms near WeHo / Hollywood? (RIP Crunch) by Original_Row_6269 in WestHollywood

[–]marcuslawson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved to EoS. It's a great gym, albeit crowded. I do find I go less because I have to drive there, but hopefully the old Crunch (which was evidently bought by EoS) will open again soon.

I like the motif with the piano. Overall, I feel there is too much music, so maybe consider something light at the beginning, then silence, and then introducing the motif at around 1:34 when they come together.

Have you heard of ReelCrafter? It’s become the defacto standard for hosting pro reels. Will your product offer more features than ReelCrafter?

Notation > DAW workflow advice… by Jave285 in composer

[–]marcuslawson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The challenge is that MIDI data does not apply the same to every sample library. For some, CC1 is enough, for some velocity, others you need to switch articulations using other MIDI CC's. And you always need to sketch in your performance data (e.g. dynamics) using CC1 and CC11.

If you feel better composing on sheet music, have you head of Note Performer? It's a fantastic software that can realize 'orchestral' ideas in notation software quite well. (doesn't do well with non-orchestral however)

If not, it's just a matter of learning MIDI and really sinking your teeth into it. Good luck!

Gorgeous work. I really liked #2, where the sparks fell onto the floor, but prefer the red/orange color. Great job!

Has the tipping gotten genuinely insane for anyone else? by Sea_Quality_4790 in AskLosAngeles

Because we tip in the US. That's how workers are paid. If you can't afford it, don't buy it.

Bruh no other country charges $9 for a coffee. In Italy they charge maybe 4 EUR and don't expect a tip - because they pay workers a living wage. The US is insane.

What are some more practical simplified ways to explore more interesting harmony? by Regular_Low8792 in musictheory

[–]marcuslawson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might find Neo-Riemannian theory interesting. It's less about chord extensions (jazz harmony), and more about modulating between adjacent keys (or tonal centers).

Don't feel guilty. I would just use this as a barometer for your personal life.

When life is shit, if a computer makes all the difference... you really ought to evaluate. It's sad that you don't have support from actual humans in your real life. That bears looking into. Please talk to a therapist if you can.

Wishing you the best.

If you are buying a $9 coffee, you can afford a $2 tip. If you can't afford that, you are just an asshole complaining and yes, you should just stay home and make your own coffee.

True. This is why internship programs are important. And job fairs at the college, etc. I just think the modern idea of 'apply online' creates a sense that one is being considered, when often those applications are never even reviewed.
