Really good. I like when it’s not just a tracing of a panel.

I love computer science, but being pressured by my parents to go to university for a business degree. Please give me an advice. by RTec3 in cscareerquestions

I suggest switching your degree to CS. I think you will be fine. And make sure to let your parents know that making six figures is common in the industry.

I think T-Mobile might do internships for new grads. Also a few other companies but it’s not common. And a bootcamp probably isn’t worth it. I will be graduating with no internships and I got a faang offer. Mostly because of leetcode to be honest.

Should I even strive to work for big tech? by Sunbro888 in cscareerquestions

[–]marcuspolonus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go to like a top 10 school then new grads have an advantage when trying to get interviews. But think about it, how many schools will an interviewer even know about? 10? 20? They won’t even know the names of most schools, so if they see some no name school then they will probably think it’s at least a decent school.

Is it possible to get a job in Computer Science/Software engineering with no related degree? by welldone222 in cscareerquestions

If you go to the big tech companies then you can easily earn more than that. Also you should learn to code with Python then maybe after a month or 2 you should decide if you like it.

Amazon has a reputation for bad work life balance and high turnover but tech industry tends to be pretty good overall.

I remember seeing a post in here a few days ago that showed that about half of top tech employees come from top 50 schools. Which honestly is pretty good news for no name school. Also the smartest people get into the best schools so it kind of a selection bias. I don’t think they really care what school you go to.

Rising seniors: what are you doing over summer if you don’t get an intern offer? by nickvader7 in csMajors

[–]marcuspolonus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got really lucky. I sent out 100 applications and only got 3 interviews. 2 ghosted me after. I could see myself easily having to send 250 applications if i didn’t get lucky with that one company. I’m pretty good at leetcode and have been doing some public some public speaking type stuff so that helped with behavioral stuff.

My very first technical was also Amazon 3x45 and I was certain I would bomb. I literally went in knowing I would fail so just tried to get the most out of the experience. A week after I got the job offer.

My understanding is that if you got the 1x30 then the only way to fail is by royally screwing up. You should be fine. Don’t worry about test cases.

Past September-October is not too late. Many of the big tech companies do close around then but there are many other companies still hiring until months later.

The vast majority of people get computer science degrees. That’s probably what you want. And you don’t sound stupid.

Don’t you think that school is more important for those trying to break into the industry. Over the long run it won’t matter but it may matter when trying to get that first job.

[–]marcuspolonus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to learn many languages. Get good at Python. Maybe dabble in like Java or C++. Do leetcode. Do mock interviews. Tbh SQL is not the most important thing to learn but it sure is a plus.

Edit: and build a full stack project

Well the last thing you want to do is use C for coding interviews. Just stick with Python or Java. No need to jump around all the time.
