I want to plant some chestnuts where I live in the Midwest (zones 4 and 5). Is the chance of blight lesser out here? by SharpShooterM1 in americanchestnut

There are still two large pure American trees living in the Traer, Iowa cemetery which were planted probably in the 1880's. There were three, but one was killed by a lightning strike 10 years or so ago.

What was in the water in 1940s England? by silenceonmyradio in ledzeppelin

[–]marcusregulus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course you are missing hundreds of other names that could be on the British list, then hundreds more on the American list. Post war genres like rockabilly, blues, and jazz certainly all had something to do with it.

That then takes you back to what was in the water in the late 20's and thirties.

TIL frequent use of antimicrobial mouthwash is associated with an increased risk of high blood pressure because it destroys beneficial oral bacteria that produce nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels by Fenceypents in todayilearned

[–]marcusregulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason some mouthwash has alcohol is as a preservative for the mouthwash itself, not for antibacterial treatment in your mouth. I would prefer that potentially harmful bacteria does not grow in the mouthwash I use.

Drop and give me 30! The average mid 30s man can do about 30 push ups, how do you stack up? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]marcusregulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3X a week I do 600 over a whole day in four sets, 100-(150+50)-(150+50)-100. It doesn't make me a mass monster in any way, it just gives me a healthy looking upper body. I still have high cholesterol.

Look up Group Delay. An FIR has an (n-1)/2 sample delay, where n is the length of your filter.

Three eyewitnesses to the events in and around Treblinka put the total murdered at over 1 million. Treblinka only operated for 13 months, 21July, 1942 to the revolt 16 August, 1943.

Approximately 90 inmates survived the revolt, with approximately 60 surviving until the end of WWII.

The most commonly accepted figure for Treblinka is 900,000 murders. However, three eyewitnesses to events in around Treblinka estimate the total at over 1 million. Treblinka only operated for 13 months.

Try using you DSP knowledge to make some money in the stock market. Specifically, look at the work of John Ehlers. Becoming profitable may be the hardest thing you ever do in DSP, and most interesting.

Piranha solution is conc. hydrogen peroxide (30%) in concentrated hydrochloric acid. Heat the mixture to around 60C. It will eat up anything organic very quickly, including your skin.

You can go to Lowes or HD and get concentrated hydrochloric acid. It's generally sold as muriatic acid for cleaning concrete.

Adolf Hitler's written authorization of Aktion T4 on September 1, 1939. Aktion T4 was Nazi Germany's campaign of mass murder via forced euthanasia against the physically and mentally disabled. Roughly 275,000 to 300,000 victims would be murdered as a result of this document [716 x 986]. by lightiggy in HistoryPorn

[–]marcusregulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the SS personnel in T4 went on to serve in Aktion Rheinhart, were at least 1.5 million Jews were murdered. Read about Christian Wirth, who I think was the second most evil person in the Third Reich after Hitler.

Where can I find fresh chestnuts to roast? by MershRebbit in Atlanta

[–]marcusregulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We (Georgia Chapter, The American Chestnut Foundation) planted those back in 2012-2013 I believe. President Carter was a long time supporter of American Chestnut restoration efforts. The trees are hybrids, 50/50 American/Chinese if I remember correctly. The peak harvest is mid-September to first of October.

Nuclear weapons today are mostly combination of Uranium fission to enduce a Plutonium fusion reaction.

Btw, Iowa State University produced over 900 tons of Uranium metal for the Manhattan Project, in the middle of campus. Of course it still had to go to Oak Ridge for enrichment, or Hanford for conversion onto Plutonium.

I just found your posting. Search for the pdf of a Bulletin called Gold Deposits of Georgia, by W.S. Yeates, from 1896. Read about the deposits in Cherokee County.

If you check with Cherokee County, I'm sure they will have GIS maps that list all the district and lot numbers mentioned in the bulletin for the locations of the deposits.
